Description of the issue: I had Brave open and I was using another browser for a few minutes. I noticed Brave was closed so I tried to open it and it showed the new tab page for a fraction of a second before crashing and it keeps doing that. I restarted my computer and still have the same problem.
How can this issue be reproduced? Well I have no way to stop it from happening so simply opening it reproduces it.
Brave Version( check About Brave): I had to check the files but the folder says “80.1.3.113”
Additional Information: Is there a way I can export my bookmarks without opening Brave? I want to keep them safe before trying any solutions. Thanks.
Exact same thing happening here; the browser shows previously opened tabs for a fraction of a second and then closes with the 80.1.3.113 folder being generated too
Hey, we’re testing a fix right now! If anyone could try out the test build here and confirm it’s fixed, we’ll go ahead and merge it into the main release.
Hey @bbear999 (and anyone else testing this for us), can you open brave://crashes and send the first few reports? (Just click “Send Now”). If you could copy/paste the crash report numbers as well that’d be awesome.
There will be a free t-shirt in this for you, I swear
PSST: make sure Automatically send crash reports to Brave is enabled in the Settings screen as well.
After running the fix for my OS, my browser is running again. I also removed the sync chain from my other devices because someone had said that could have been the problem on a different thread.
I installed the test build you provided and it did not fix the issue for me. Also I cannot open “brave://crashes” because the crash is within a fraction of a second.

For those wondering how to turn it on, You can do so by searching for “crash” in the search. Warning: It requires a re-launch of Brave.
I am experiencing the same thing. I was notified of an update on my Mac Laptop IOS 10.13 and installed it this afternoon. After doing so, and then opening Brave, I ended up in a repeated crash loop! I couldn’t get it to even open. It just crashed repeatedly. I had no choice but to entirely delete Brave from my Mac.
So, I tried to open Brave on my Windows 10 PC because I had not made any updates recently.
Apparently, the update had automatically pushed and the same thing immediately happened there too. Crash loop! Thankfully, Windows Task Manager stopped the crash loop and I didn’t have to delete Brave altogether.
In a frantic effort to record saved passwords and logins, I tried my Android phone, and thankfully, PlayStore doesn’t seem to have pushed the update yet.
So what now? On my Mac, I have no option to restore or anything. I would have to re-download it, I guess, but I’m not about to do that until whatever horrible thing is wrong is fixed. I can continue to avoid the update from PlayStore for my phone, but with my Windows PC, Brave is still installed, but there’s no way to open the program to get a new version. I thought automatic reporting was enabled on my Mac, but not sure. Obviously, I can’t change that now since the program is gone. I believe it may have been enabled on my PC, but the crash loop is so fast, I cannot get on it long enough to do anything.
*NOTE: My husband is reporting that he installed the Windows 10 Pro 64 update above on his computer and it’s running fine. He has not been able to run Brave at all for the past few months because it would crash whenever he played a video or opened a new page.
Just installed Version 1.3.114 Chromium: 80.0.3987.87 (Official Build) (64-bit) and after installing and a hard reboot Brave crashed (stopped working and was closed) WITHOUT any crash report. I’ve got zero reports at “brave://crashes”
I hard rebooted my PC again and after a few minutes launching Brave it ‘worked’. During this startup Windows was again very slow and sometimes non responsive.
After this problematic startup I can close and open Brave like it should (no delay) until I restart my PC again.
Now this is very weird, after I started Version 1.3.114 I couldn’t open the Beta version. After closing Version 1.3.114 and starting Beta, 3 windows opened (2 delayed actions from starting while Version 1.3.114 was still open).
With Version 1.2.42 and Version 1.2.43 I could ALWAYS open the Beta without any issues.
Had several tries after hard reboots, Windows started crashing sometimes again (Stopcode_critical_error).
What I could detect is that there is a conflict with the Windows Task Manager.
Sometimes when Brave starts my desktop disappears and at one time when windows was non responsive and there was no desktop, I used Ctrl+Alt+Del to start the Task Manager. Then I ended the Brave task but Windows was stuck in a kind of a loop, black screen for a second then color came back but no desktop and this kept on going until I relogged into the OS (switch User with Ctrl+Alt+Del).
Then I could only start the Beta that started as it supposed to.
