Ability to copy & paste blocked/shielded sites

Disgrunteled on our banking orgs., utilitiy orgs., continually changing online accounts by adding more and more snoopers and data collecting apps. I cannot figure out how to copy and paste the lists of shields when on i.e. chase.com,ppl.com,xfinity.com sites, and want a way to properly communicate the problems occuring when they are trying to force us out of using Brave as a browser.I am all about privacy, and this world of digital has gone to the devils home. the topics u claim are similar are not. I am a mature user still on Windows 10 Pro O.S. w/dell laptop that will not support 11, am having many problems thanks to Microsoft’s updates downloading more new apps unneeded and undisclosed. I miss the windows 7 O.S. which was not a modified cell phone. Am I missing a way to do what I am asking for in your browsers use? ------------- -----------------------------------------------------------------------

@dkc7

Speaking as an old guard, oldtimer, I am certain that you need either:

  • a new (or “in excellent condition but used”) computing device that runs Windows OS 11 Pro
  • a mobile computing device that runs “the bank’s app”

I much, much prefer an Apple iPhone in the “mobile computing device” category. Preferring that over an Android device ← Google (snooping) device, in effect.

Re the desktop / laptop Windows OS 11 Pro problem:

“The banks” are more anxious to only hear: “Nobody broke into our systems.” ← That has priority over customers’ old gear, stuff, being left in the wake of the bank’s: “We are making adjustments and new improvements in our hardware, software, privacy and security.”

IMHO, the work of getting to know Windows OS 11 Pro + your chosen computer that can run that Operating System, is better started now, than later . . . unless you decide to use a mobile device’s “bank app” for most of the banking, and otherwise visit the bank for matters that the “bank app” cannot handle.

All the above, is the nice way of saying, The bank is going to cut off access for processes that do not measure up to the executive office expectations. The bank’s tech. group wants to keep their jobs, and though “IT” may have solutions and listen to your arguments and carefully crafted appeals (including screenshots) . . . the “IT” people mostly want to keep their jobs.

Most sincerely.

If you want details re settings and Brave Shields, using 'chase.com' as an example . . .

Very detailed info

A) In a Brave Browser New Window, go to the On exit tab at: brave://settings/clearBrowserData. Make sure that both Cookies and other site data and Site and Shields Settings are DISABLED (Maybe also DISABLE Passwords and other sign-in data ← your option.) Do the same for the Advanced tab, and aso examine the Basic tab.

B) Where Site Permissions Settings are (in 2 Parts):

Part 1

This part assumes, that you are unable to sustain a connection to the website of interest ← the webpages keep reloading, tumbling or some other unstable condition.

In a Brave Browser New Window, go to the following brave://settings/content/siteDetails page:

  • brave://settings/content/siteDetails?site=https%3A%2F%2Fchase.com

NOTICE: In that Brave Browser Settings URL address, the following character string may be regarded as a fixed portion of the whole address characters string:

  • brave://settings/content/siteDetails?site=https%3A%2F%2F

. . . at the end of which, you attach the hostname (www.chase.com) or domain name (chase.com) of the website of interest.

For visits to chase.com, you need at least to ENABLE (“Allow”) JavaScript ← you would scroll down to that setting, at the aforementioned complete Brave Browser Settings URL address:

  • brave://settings/content/siteDetails?site=https%3A%2F%2Fchase.com

Part 2

This part assumes, that you are able to at least maintain some kind of stable connection to the website of interest. This part is the process for allowing a JavaScript source, a process that is usually recommended by Brave Support.

IF you are already visiting the bank online, at https://www.chase.com, you can get to that previously mentioned Brave Browser Settings URL address destination by clicking the “tune” icon that is immediately to the left of http in the URL Address field
Tune_button_left_offset_of_URL_address_field

Click Site settings in the pop-down menu. In the resulting window, you will see in the URL address field, that you are at the previously mentioned Brave Browser Settings URL address destination:

  • brave://settings/content/siteDetails?site=https%3A%2F%2Fchase.com

In that Brave Browser window, scroll down to the JavaScript setting and set that to Allow (if not already so).

JavaScript__Allow

C) The Other Location Where JavaScript Needs to Be Allowed

In a Brave Browser New Window, go to brave://settings/content/javascript

Scroll down that javascript settings page to Allowed to use javascript and click the Add button

Enter: [*.]chase.com as the site . . . but do not Enable the following: Current Private session only

Click the Add button. (You might discover, that entry has already been made.)

D) BRAVE SHIELDS

In a Brave Browser New Window, visit our example bank website https://www.chase.com/. There, you may, or may not, need to make Site-Specific Brave Shields adjustments. Some banks and financial institutions need the Trackers & Ads setting at: Standard or completely disabled.

TIPS: In general, aka “my philosophy” using Brave Shields, I have more success, with:

  • Brave Shields UP
  • Either Allow All Cookies or Block 3rd Party Cookies, but NOT Blocking All Cookies
  • Allowing JavaScripts from specific sources, but NOT Allowing All JavaScripts
  • Trackers & Ads treatment: Aggressive (at first), and then incrementally relaxing that setting
  • Fingerprinting (aka footprinting) blocking: Strict (at first), and then incrementally relaxing that setting

I almost NEVER use:

  • All of Brave Shields UP
  • All of Brave Shields DOWN

Thank u 4 your feedback, I looked into a used/renovated Dell/Lattitude just as expensive as a new Lenovo from Walmart, and about $3800.00 new. I refuse to use/link my cell phone for any financial matters, and have blocked a lot of Googles data collection apps. Cell phone out of the question. Am going to drop Norton in another month, forcing the use of Edge, or Chrome browsers. Dropped Xfinity the worst of the bunch for sharing our personal data use. So my internet provider now will not work w/a vpn. I am 70, and infuriated at all the marketing these orgs are adding to the online accounts we use to pay our bills and watch our data use. Add Trump to the mess, and I am as stressed out as I have ever been. Microsoft is a big thorn in my side w/all the undisclosed apps they are adding in their supposed security updates in the O.S. My family recommended going to MAC products, but with hours of research I found that my family is incorrect in assuming they are free from hackers w/o additional security software, in fact since they are even more expensive (laptops) than my years of Dell products they are more likely to be hacked w/the assumption owners likley have more to steal. Common sense tells me on my fixed income I will likley have to switch to a Lenovo laptop but fitting into budget will be difficult. Do u know of a way to copy the list of sheilds blocking a specific website? I think these orgs, financial or otherwise are more concerned w/kickbacks from advertisers than security. Point proved that chase has foreign socalled customer service support asking for your full S.S.3’s and your Credit card #'s in full not just the last 4 digits. Have been chase for years but they have proved that they are now not secure at all, leaving security issues only up to the user to trust using the internet. Any thoughts on whom u use for online security? I wish Brave could show recommendations on the subject. I realize there are many variables i.e. equipment, isp provider, etc. but it takes me hours in all the feedback and in the homework I do trying to make the best decisions w/this ever changing, and unsafe computing era. Thanks again 4 your efforts, greatly appreciated. I love Brave.

I have been everywhere u have mentioned and understand most of how brave operates, but was unaware of the add’tl java script info which is set for allowed based on braves recomendations. I again am so very greatful for your input. I do aggressively stop all 3rd party marketing apps. I’ve tried chase w/shields down and up, they keep adding to their online site more ad apps, as well as other sites. I am extremely detail oriented, but not a digital pro, so I have been watching carefully the changes these orgs. are making to their online account settings. Do not have camera, microphone, or touch use on my equipment. Again thxs for the feedback.

@dkc7

Keep an eye on, how things develop for the similar blocked bank site issue:

-Blocked Sites that were previously accessible

Re some of your thoughts, I would not be surprised by:

A) “an advertising syndicate” paying banks to display ads to — ‘securely signed-in bank account customers’ who have strong expectations of privacy during such customer visits — and

B) the customer is required by the bank’s online access strategy: to significantly reduce his/her computing device’s privacy and security protection, in order to i) get, then ii) maintain the secure session - such that

C) the customer is held hostage to the third party: “advertising syndicate” . . . and unable to conduct tradtional, expected, private business - unless willing to abandon security precautions.

That is, for some banks, the situation may be.

@dkc7

Your question:

“Do u know of a way to copy the list of sheilds blocking a specific website?”

Anthology: My version of 'What happens between a website and its Brave Browser visitor?'

Brave Shields is a combination of Software Firewall + Shifty Farbling. The Software Firewall includes tools for playing a firewall game of Allow and Block ↔ data flow (some types: ads, “fingerprints”, “footprints”, scripts, etc.).

The Shifty Farbling is a privacy protection scheme of Brave’s (they use the term, “Farbling”), that messes up certain character strings of some words and numbers that, when composed and prepared for transmission, are in packets of data sent from Brave Browser, back to a website.

The Shifty Farbling notion/premise being, to send back to that website, only what that website actually needs for filling out some fields of what amounts to being a digital Our Website Visitor’s Access Qualifications Form ← that is in effect, a checklist of conditions and info that satisfies the website’s strategy for protecting itself and ostensibly the website visitor ← in the opinion of the website owner(s)-manager(s)-developer(s).

That website is likely to be very picky about accurate info in certain fields on its digital checklist form, but that website may not be so picky re other entry fields on their form.

Brave knows where some of that website’s form requires accurate info (because parts of such forms are standard or typical for most websites), but otherwise, for some other fields of that website’s form, Brave sends what will pass (Farbling: meaningless blank field stuffings) for “filling in the blanks” . . . while also not helping a website’s plans to collect info about you and your computing device.

So, there is some certainty about data and info that is actually required by a website, but a realm of uncertainty about, what the website is otherwise looking for, but does not, or probably does not, actually need from you. Brave Shielding in general, attempts to make educated guesses, and Brave Browser users have some control over, what you might say, are classes of those guesses. The 2 major classes, being Brave Shields UP and Brave Shields DOWN.

Brave Shields UP strategy for Brave Browser users means that, to pass the test (satisfying the website’s checklist form), artful, incremental relaxation of Brave Browser Shields settings, is something to learn by experience, by testing, trial and error, in my humble opinion.

Brave Shields DOWN strategy for Brave Browser users means that, that to pass the test (satisfying the website’s checklist form), the user relaxes almost every protection that Brave Shields has to offer - EXCEPT some Shifty Farbling (built-in and not controlled by the BB user) may remain in some of the data sent by the Brave Browser back to the website.

That last part, there, re “some Shifty Farbling” that remains intact, may explain why Brave Shields DOWN does not always work as expected.

Yet, I suspect that, much of the developing website connection troubles, is because of, how more websites are now using a complex system of rotating and tumbling requests that they make - you can see the effects in the browser’s Developer Tools > Network window. The website’s seeking data and info from Internet browsers ← that amounts to a stream of almost-PINGING and relentless pestering the visiting browser, until the website gets what it wants.

That website strategy figures (I guess), if on the first few tries, the website does not get what it wants, then the website must ramp up its efforts ← some of that, because of a fear of “man in the middle attacks.” The website gets intense, and then quits on you, or the browser throws an error (something like “too many requests”).

Overall meaning, that there are some websites that Brave Browser may not connect with, despite the user’s herculean efforts. I recognize, “this is not working,” and then proceed to Firefox or Microsoft Edge, Opera, Safari.

Re your question, the info that I previously provided (earlier reply), will take you to Brave Settings and switches areas - such as the Site-Specific Brave Shields pop-up menu - that you can take screenshots of, for reference. On a Mac, I am able to drag copy across the face of that Site-Specific Brave Shields pop-up menu and copy the text, then paste into a text editor.
