This actually started end of March. The first site to crash was discord. Shortly after that it was Youtube. And now it’s Google.com. Basically brave no longer works on 98% of the trafficed sites. I really like Brave browser and I have a lot “invested” in it. I really hope you can resolve this. Since Google owns Youtube, it seems this is Googles revenge. They have gotten too big. This is on Windows 7 64 bit. Please don’t tell me to update windows. I’ll go back to pen and paper before do that. This has nothing to do with the OS. It’s google/youtube punishing people who use Brave. And when I said it is happening now on Google.com, what I mean is it’ll show the SERPs, but depending on what you click on, it’ll crash again, all windows close. AT a very min. can you make each window isolate so that a crash in one does not effect all the open windows and tabs? Thank you.
‘Shield status’ - I don’t have that option on my version of Brave. As with others on this thread, clicking on YT or any link or Google-hosted sites, crashes Brave. Only way I’ve found so far to rectify this is to open in Safari. I’m on a Mac Mini which has had a memory upgrade but I cannot update the OS as the year of my MM is no longer supported by Apple and, as I’ve been reminded on startup for several months, Brave itself can’t be updated unless I have a newer Mac OS.
Up until yesterday I had no problem with youtube. As of yesterday, when I try to go to youtube the browser crashes. Every other site I go to is fine.
It’s not the computer. How do I know? This computer has two users. When I go to the other user, youtube plays fine.
I cleared the browsing history and cached images and files.
Is there something else I can try? I like watching youtube videos. I can’t even get to the site now.
Thank You
@Vanlutz what OS and version of Brave are you using?
I have a very old PC that uses Windows 7. I can’t update my browser, because this computer can’t be updated to Windows 10. But, that’s not the problem. The other user on this computer, which is using the same exact browser and version of Brave plays youtube fine. I can’t even get to the site on this side.
I did a search for an album that had a youtube video. I just hovered over the link to it, and the browser crashed. That’s how much this browser will not go to youtube.
With the above said, I hope you don’t mind me asking more out of curiosity. It’s not going personal or bashing, but just me randomly asking to see if you might somehow help me understand.
Is there a reason you chose to not search for other topics on this before deciding to post? It seems a lot of people do this and I don’t get it. We can have the issue and answer right here in front of everyone, but people ignore it and choose to create their own topic. I just don’t understand why. So figured I’d ask you.
First THANK YOU! Disabling the shields did the trick.
Yes, there is a distinct reason I didn’t search out other topics. I did online, and nothing worked. My first post is the first time I’ve been to this page. It might look easy to you. It’s all gibberish to me. I don’t even know where the homepage is, or if there is one.
You’re a tech person, I’m not. I have to think extremely hard about the words to use for a post. I’m sure you didn’t read my post and think “This guy knows exactly what he’s talking about.”
When you’re an average person with a problem, you ask and hope for an answer, instead of searching where you might just be not using the correct words.
I know sometimes I come off as nasty. I’m not meaning to be. I’m just answering your question, with hopefully some insight, and not meanness.
Thanks again. I can watch videos again.
Ah, yeah. For what it’s worth, might be best to try to use things like this site. I need to improve on it a bit, but example of tips/tricks on searching here can be seen at Search Before Posting.
If just look on search engines, it gets to be too random and not too helpful.
Just a FYI, I’m just a normal user who helps people here. While I’m good at using stuff, I know absolutely nothing when it comes to coding, development, or anything. And I don’t get paid for anything I do here either. It’s just a volunteer thing.
Nah, you’re good. And honestly it should be said the opposite. My social skills are lacking and between traumatic brain injury, autism, and just my own personality, I can be misunderstood. Especially as I tend to be more direct and people aren’t used to it, often perceiving legitimate questions or advice as if said in a negative way. If people can try not to think about how they imagine I’m saying something and just strictly look at what’s being said and take it in all sincerity, usually works well. But doesn’t usually happen that way.
Anyway, glad to hear everything resolved for you.
This is what I did… I went into shield global and turned off ad tracking, then was able to get to youtube… opened up youtube, went back to global tracking and turned on ad blocking, then went to shield on youtube site and turned off the ad tracking… that seems to work. I now get ads on youtube but I appear to be protected on everything else. I wish Brave would undo whatever it was that they changed to cause this problem in the first place… or fix it. Considering how many people are still using W7/8 and hate the invasion of win 10+ to privacy. Gates, pushed the jab that has killed millions worldwide… he doesn’t care about invading our computers and privacy. Unfortunately I cannot move to Linux because of the programs I need. Can’t afford it anyway…
You sound like me. But, after someone calls me out, I re read what I wrote, and if read incorrectly, the meanness has a tendency to be there. It’s not intentional, it’s just the way I talk.
One more question, which might be useful for many users.
I go to youtube every day. For at least the past 3 years (I’ve lived in this house), not one crash. YESTERDAY it started crashing. WHY? I never go into brave workings for anything. Yet as of yesterday, the shields stopped youtube from opening.
Why would that be? Is it a new youtube thing, or did brave make some adjustment?
Thanks again.
Because the (new) counter messure for youtube ads, is incompatible with older versions of Brave. Which causes the crash.
It’s sooo damn annoying! when this will be fixed??? I lost so many tabs to this. And i use mainly brave now, but recently issues after issues… Unnusable almost.
So youtube is to blame. Sounds about right. Thanks.

HI,when i open youtube and some other specific websites ,brave crashes and closing .Is there a solution for this?
P.S first time occured by this crash.
I found solution:i install brave again because i cant update the brave(error code sth)and then all webs open well even youtube.
BLUF: Workaround/Soultion: Disable Shields tracker & ad blocker and install another adblocker
I had the same issue. In a span of a few minutes, everything went from “all good!” to “WTF?!” Sites that caused crashes were all Google related.
Hours later, multiple re-installs, system recovery, etc I finally found the source of the problem…
…Brave anti-tracker is now incompatible with Googles tracking. ANY site using Googles trackers/ads will also crash
01: Open Settings
02: Select Shields (left side menu)
03: (from right side menu - halfway down) Trackers and Ad Blocking - select Disabled
04: Install another adblocker. I’m currently using AdBlock Plus and so far, so good.
===
I didn’t encounter this problem with Firefox.
PS: This is my first post here. I’ve no idea why it’s formatting the way it is. Hope it it’s good enough for you folks
How did you get it to reinstall?
I’ve deleted using windows install, tiring to reinstall, I’m getting the “most recent version” error?
any tips?
just reinstall Brave like you did the 1st time, download and install it.

BraveBrowserSetup-BRV030 Claims “no update available” It’s the only brave file I can find on my PC, since after the uninstall. I assume uninstall left some files somewhere that I a non tech can’t find. Whatever the issue is it’s probably related to this stale copy of windows 8. Took out netflix too. Im frustrated, it was a really ( you don’t know how untill it gone) Great browser. I don’t think this issue will be resolved.
