Update broke DNS?

Description of the issue:
How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Open brave
  2. Attempt to access any website
  3. Get rejected

Expected result:
Bring up webpage

Brave Version( check About Brave):
Brave version 1.29.81

Additional Information:
When attempting to visit any website, I see a prompt that says:

This site can’t be reached

google.com’s DNS address could not be found. Diagnosing the problem.

DNS_PROBE_POSSIBLE

nothing happens on this page, Hitting ‘Reload’ swiftly brings me back to that page.

I have tried changing DNS providers, I have cleared DNS cache, I have also reset my Brave settings and have no added extensions.

EDIT: everything works properly on Brave Beta version, but not the release version for me.

You’re not the only one. I have the same thing happen. Others have reported the same thing
https://community.brave.com/search?q=dns_probe_possible%20order:latest

problem still persists in version 1.30.87, but still has not appeared on the beta build

  1. Click on run/search, type “cmd”, right click "Run as admin"

Then run the following in the black window:

  1. netsh int ip reset
  2. netsh winsock reset
  3. ipconfig /flushdns
  4. ipconfig /release
  5. ipconfig /renew
  6. ipconfig /registerdns

After this,

In the new Brave tab,

  1. type in Brave://net-internals/#dns and press “Enter”
  2. Click on the Clear Host Cache button to clear this cache.

Lastly,

  1. Open Control Panel
  2. Locate and double click Internet Options icon
  3. Click Content Tab
  4. Clear SSL State.

Then Restart PC. and retest Brave.

Followed each step to a T, after restarting my PC there is still no change in the behavior of the release version of Brave browser, as before, Beta build still fully functional. I’m also assuming I was supposed to clear host cache for the standard release of brave, which I did, as opposed to the beta build.

Try a clean Brave profile.

by that do you mean reset settings? If so that has already been done as well.

No, new Brave profile.

  1. Use hamburger menu => Create a new Profile.

Or failing that, close Brave,

Rename folder C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser

If it still occurs. I dunno.

just rename it to anything? the new profile did not solve the issue.

Rename to something like Brave-Browser-bak so you can rename it back if you restore it.

That got Brave working, though I will also admit I have a bit of a tab problem, how would I go about restoring what I had on my original profile? even if there isn’t a way to do that I’m very grateful for the help so far, thank you.

remove the newer Brave folder created, then Rename the backup profile folder back too Brave-Browser, While Brave is closed will restore it back remove

when restoring my issue returns, is there a file in the user data I should purge before opening Brave again or something else to prevent this?
