Text files and pdfs are not downloading properly

When I download an attached text file (.doc, .docx, .rtf) and open it in my word processing program, it comes up as gibberish or code of some kind. This forces me to download these files using Chrome, which I don’t want to use. Also, if I download a .pdf file and attempt to open it, my software says the file type is not supported, and once again I have to switch to Chrome to download it. Do I have an incorrect setting in Brave, or something?

Hello @RedArrowTinker, thank you for bringing this to our attention. Could you please share a screenshot with text format you are getting? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for responding, Jorge,Below is what I get when I download a
.doc or .rtf file using Brave. When I attempt to download the file
that’s attached to an incoming email, the only choices I’m given for
saving it are ooxml and all files.

Hello again @RedArrowTinker, what kind of device do you use? Have you updated to the latest Brave version? Do you use extensions? Does the same happen if you download from a private window? Thanks in advance.

Hi, Jorge,
I am using a desktop computer running Windows 10 Pro Version 21H2. My Brave software says it’s up to date.
I’m not sure what you mean by using extensions or private windows. Could you explain those terms, please?
Thanks for taking the time to help figure this out.

Sure will be a pleasure @RedArrowTinker, at the right upper corner click on the 3 bars > Extensions also from there if you scroll down, you can access to a private window or pressing Crtl + Shift + N For more information, please read this post:

Hope this helps. Have a nice day!

Hi again, Jorge,
Thanks for your explanation. I opened a private window, and the text file opened properly. I haven’t tried a .pdf or .jpg file yet, but hopefully they’ll be fine as well.
Thanks again!
