Sync Stuck on "Looking for device" for Windows and iOS

Description of the issue: When attempting to sync desktop with iOS, regardless of which device is used to create the sync chain, both devices just spin indefinitely on “Looking for device.” I am not sure how long the initial sync is supposed to take, but it’s been going this last time for several hours. I downloaded the desktop and iPhone browsers TODAY, so they are fully up-to-date.

How can this issue be reproduced?
This happens both when starting the process on the iPhone and when starting on the desktop. For sake of example, these are the steps I followed when doing it on the desktop and scanning the QR code with the iPhone.

  1. Go to brave://sync
  2. Click “Start a new Sync Chain”
  3. Click “Phone/Tablet”
  4. On iPhone, tap “Sync”
  5. Tap “I have a Sync Code”
  6. Scan the QR code on the desktop browser
  7. Phone shows spinning icon
  8. Desktop shows spinning “Looking for device”

Expected result: Eventually, the two should sync and get off that screen or stop the spinning

Brave Version( check About Brave):
Desktop: Version 0.68.132 Chromium: 76.0.3809.132 (Official Build) (64-bit)
iOS: 12.4.1

Addendum: For some reason, on some attempts, the desktop will show the phone listed on synced devices, but the phone never shows the desktop. Also, bookmarks are never synced in any case.

Currently, my phone has the “Devices on Chain” page with the “Add another device” button but literally no devices listed - not even itself. This means I can’t scan the QR code or anything. This is getting ridiculous. What am I doing wrong?

@aescgar,
Doesn’t seem like you’re doing anything wrong as far as I can tell. Is this your first time trying to set up a Sync chain?

I’m having similar problems except I’m trying to sync my laptop to my android phone. The wheel just spins. They never find each other. I’ve tried both the qr and the string of words.
