Suddenly getting "Ad blockers are not allowed on YouTube"

Curious if anyone else has been seeing this lately. It just started yesterday, out of nowhere, after no previous problems with Brave. UBlock is up to date, version of Brave is up to date, shields are up. Curiously, no problems on my Chrome browser or my Brave mobile browser.

Running Win 10 Pro on a ThinkPad, version 1.58.131 Chromium: 117.0.5938.92 (64-bit).

Thanks.

Usage of adblocker on youtube is not allowed as adblockers prevent vital revenue getting to google, which is a security risk and violates the EULA, you risk your google account being suspended if you use adblockers, this is why adblockers are not allowed on the chrome web store.

@Adrian71 the YouTube notices are a constant back and forth. If you keep Brave updated, you shouldn’t have this as an issue. If you get a notice like that, sometimes need to go to brave://components and make sure everything there is updated.

Other thing I’d suggest is you double check your Shields settings. I have what I use and recommend shared over at What are the best settings for Shields?

They earned over $5 billion in revenue and continue to earn more. Nobody cares about it, especially with how often they are adding various types of ads to their content.

Ads are a privacy and security risk. It has long been shown that ads consist of trackers and malware. This is why people are so adamant against them. An example of some of this is at https://www.mcafee.com/learn/what-is-malvertising-and-how-do-you-avoid-it/

You may want to do a little more research before speaking. Adblockers are allowed and are up there, such as uBlock Origin and AdBlock.

What you’re misunderstanding and falsely preaching is the idea of changes being made by Google known as Manifest V3. This just meant that any adblocker or extension running on Manifest V2 would no longer be carried in the Chrome Web Store.

They have not ever said they would prevent adblockers from being used nor that they will not be allowed on the chrome web store.

Thanks, @Saoiray. I’ve tried everything, from checking for updates on brave://components to clearing my cookies. Only other thing I can think of to do is to reinstall the browser.

@fanboynz can you give any more insight?

Would check in Brave Beta or Nightly, no extensions installed.

This is happening in the latest version of Brave Version 1.57.1 (23.9.20.7) for iPadOS17

I keep getting the dreaded black screen forcing me to disable Adblockers in youtube.

The only way I found to fix this is by deleting the entire browser cache, relogin again and the videos load again, but after a while the black screen returns.

Tried eith Aggresive and Normal shields but this new error is very difficult to bypass like never seem before.

Tried Beta and Nightly, no extensions. They both seem to successfully block the YouTube notice.

Found a custom filter to add. Guess I’ll give that a try, while turning off extensions.

Which custom rule? though it shouldn’t be needed

It didn’t work. Just got the YouTube notice again this morning. If I can’t figure this out, I’ll either have to do a fresh install of Brave or try another browser. I don’t know what else to do.

This was the script I used:

youtube.com##+js(set, yt.config_.openPopupConfig.supportedPopups.adBlockMessageViewModel, false)

youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.adBlocksFound, 0)

youtube.com##+js(set, ytplayer.config.args.raw_player_response.adPlacements, [])

youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.hasAllowedInstreamAd, true)

Does it show up in a new Brave beta or nightly build?

I don’t use official adblockers but you can have the pleasure of blocking ads via Steven Black hostfile which is a built-in component of other various security apps. I wish I could be more specific but don’t wish to give fascists a heads-up. I don’t get those popups btw.

No, it doesn’t show up in Beta or Nightly.

Yep.
I’ve officially been blocked from watching YT videos on Brave, EVEN WITH THE ADBLOCK TURNED OFF!
I don’t know if it’s youtube being dumb, but I’m at a loss. The fact I can’t watch YT videos on Brave anymore is ridiculous. Tried everything to no avail…

It looks like YT is selectively targeting accounts to try to crack down on people bypassing ads. I’m seeing a lot of people on Reddit complaining about this as well. I wasn’t getting the pop-up on Chrome, but now it’s there too. Beta is the only way I can bypass it, at least for now.

Same happened to me today - Got totally blocked from watching videos through Brave on my iPad …but funny enough, Brave still works fine on my stationary?!
Tried to close the brave-app(on iPad) and update it to latest version …and the blockade still persist?!!
Edit: A thought/Question!? - will use of VPN help to block YouTubes ability to locate me and prevent them from blocking me using YouTube without Ad’s??

I’ve tried doing the same with a vpn yet it still didn’t help. I suspect it may be something to do with browser fingerprinting. I can see YouTube getting in some hot water because of this, since it’s unbelievably anti-consumer.

…and rigthfully so…!
I’m never gonna accept being force-feed ad’s on YouTube! - I would rather go to another video platform, than accept(or pay to prevent) ad’s on YouTube!
