New March 2025 Youtube Blocking Logging in Under Brave

I noticed that Youtube started aggressively throwing the Ad blockers not permitted on youtube screen about a week ago. It would restart the video 2 or 3 times and the screen would go away and video would play normally. Monday this week it logged my wife out of her account. When you login you get the oops error

I read the older threads under this topic and one of the things it said was to delete cookies. I went in and nuked all cookies for all web pages back to the beginning of time. Still no luck.

Shields up or down same error and all adblockers turned off. I would’t watch AdTube this way but for S&G I decided to try it.

The odd thing is I can still watch the videos under YT with no ads and shields up but I just can’t be logged in to YT.

On one of my Windows 10 machines I could run logged in under a private window until I applied the new version of Brave today of: Version 1.76.82 Chromium: 134.0.6998.178 (Official Build) (64-bit) and Now get the error as noted obove

It impacts both my Wife and I’s account and all platforms and all machines Windows 11 Pro, Windows 10 and Linux Mint. Same error.

I load up MS edge and Firefox (under linix) and install ad blockers and the Ghostery plugin on all of the browsers and platforms and No ads and I can be logged in. Even Ran under TOR on all platforms with the adblockers and No problem. Also No problem under Android under brave. Just Windows 10/11 brave are having issues with YT.

I would go ahead and first check and confirm that your Brave Ad Block Updater component is using the latest version. You can check this by going to brave://components and finding the Brave Ad Block Updater component:

Also worth checking which extensions you have installed in Brave as one of them may be conflicting with Shields, or trigger the Youtube ad block detector. On my end, I can use youtube (signed in or not) on both Windows 10 and macOS systems without seeing any ads.

Thanks, I checked the Adblock updater and I show the same version that you are showing. I went and turned off 100% of my extensions and still get the error. Frustrating but at this point I can eat up endless hours troubleshooting this. I will just use a different browser for AdTube for the time being. I’ve had situations like this in the past and found that weeks or months later after a few updates, reboots and Etc it started working. Hopefully the info you noted above may cure this issue on others who may be currently experiencing it!

@PaulAtreides I just want to confirm.

  1. You’re saying you can’t login when using Brave but you can login when using other browsers on the same device?

  2. I see you mentioned trying with Shields down and also in Private…but can you check in a separate browser profile? That’s the hamburger menu imageMore ToolsAdd New Profile. Don’t change or add anything there, just see if it works on that.

  3. If you install Brave Beta or Brave Nightly are you able to get in?

Wait, including Brave? Just trying to make sure I’m not jumping to the wrong conclusion.

So I installed the Brave Nightly Beta and synced the plugins from account I’m having problems with and so far have no issues on Youtube. I’ll try it for a week or to and see if anything pops up.

I did uninstall all ad blocker software and all other plugins and still got no love on the Youtube login issues so I;ve been running in Edge for the time being with Ghostery without a hitch.

Well that didn’t take long. Somehow Youtube disabled the shields, which it has done in the past, and when I re-enabled them and the browser did a refresh. Bam. Logged me out and when I try to log in I get the oops error. I’ll check periodically but I’m just going to use Firefox on liniux with Ghostry or edge with Ghostry on Windows 10. Everything works fine with Brave for android.

I didn’t want to create a new topic, but on Brave Browser for Android, YouTube just turned off my “Shields”, too.
I had been getting ads every now and then since yesterday, but today it was almost every video. After reading your post I checked if shields were off for some odd reason, and they were off.
I seriously, seriously doubt I accidentally clicked two buttons (in different locations on the screen) to turn it off, since this has never happened over the course of two different phones and a few years of exclusively using Brave on Android. Very interesting
