When logging in to sites – like my bank or investment accounts – Brave supplies previous entries including my login. I hope I haven’t just missed a setting to turn it off.
Go to your bank’s web site
Click into the username field
It suggests my (your) real username along with other values.
For username or other login fields, it should be blank, the way you do with passwords.
Reproduces every time
Macos Sequoia 15.1.1
Brave 1.73.97 chromium 131.0.6778.108 official build
Yes, having it supplied is convenient, but in this context it’s a security risk.
I can delete it every time after a session by signing out of the site, clicking the username field, and X-ing it to delete. That’s not convenient.
I also don’t want a password manager to supply it.
You suppress previous values in the password field. I also don’t want anyone to see my username.
This comment focuses on login fields. This issue has been reported for web page fields in general. I see how to turn it off for the address bar, but I don’t see how to turn it off for fields on web pages (vs address bar).
You would have to delete this data every time it looks like. However, you can do this automatically by going to brave://settings/clearBrowserData, selecting the On exit tab then checking the Autofill and form data box. Click save.
Now, when you close the browser, this data will be deleted. It is not exactly what you’re looking for but I think is likely the best/closest option available to you now. This is a fairly niche request as most users do not have an issue with the username itself being revealed.
Thanks. Instructions are clear, but “clearbrowserdata” (and camel case) just bounces back to brave://settings/. There I see an ‘On start-up’ section but no ‘On exit’. Next item after ‘on startup’ is for ‘New tab page’
Searching settings for “form data” finds no hits. Searching for “autofill” finds a setting in Payment methods.
Is there another way? In other situations I’ve changed a line in a text config file? Cautious but comfortable doing that.
Hm interesting that it didn’t take you to the right place. You can navigate to this menu by going to Settings --> History --> Delete browsing data --> [On exit]:
Sorry for this delay. The sequence Settings → History doesn’t work no history in the list. Found it by searching settings for it. Turned it off, closed Brave, opened again, still happening. Will keep fiddling
@Lew11,
I’m confused — what exactly did you turn off? I thought the issue here was that you wanted autofill entries to be cleared from the browser without having to do it manually. In order to do this, electing to clear form data from the browser “on exit” was the suggested solution. To do this, you would be checking the box rather than unchecking it. It should look something like this:
