I am going to lose all my BAT accumulated over a year and a half just because I am unable to change region now which is set to Germany as that is where the laptop was when I’d set it up.

Same. I’m looking to sue them.

yeahh bro sue them , also for not disclosing the reasons for flagging a persons profile. many people are irritated by them  :joy:

You are always supposed to select the one of which you have a government ID using which an Uphold / Gemini account can be created.

I created an account in the same country where I have an ID, never travelled since then and yet I was still robbed of my BAT. This is wrong. Why did Brave let this happen and how much did Gemini/Uphold pocket with this gimmick? This really is a rugpull sanctioned by Brave.

  1. Kill vBAT
  2. Force the users to transfer their balance to one of two exchanges.
  3. Exchanges delist BAT with only a warning that some of us never got. There was no mention even via the browser.

This is theft.

You have always had to use an exchange. It used to be only Uphold with no other options. Then they added contract with Gemini. This was the only way to access your BAT/vBAT for any purpose other than tipping Creators.

Which was supposed to happen much earlier (we’re speaking years ago) but they kept delaying. Even after announcing sunsetting of vBAT, they delayed. It was supposed to sunset in April but they are doing it here in October instead.

Not sure what you’re referencing except for Gemini moving away from Canada. And that actually caught Brave by surprise as well. People sharing that they received the email saying it would no longer be available in Canada is the first anyone at Brave learned of it. This was only done due to changing regulations in the country as well. Other exchanges like Binance, Kraken, etc have left Canada as well.

Also, I should advise you to pay attention to the Terms of Service you agreed to when you started using Brave Rewards. It mentions all the risk of using, including support being lost. You accepted that, though most likely without ever reading it and understanding. But that’s all on you if you never did pay close attention but agreed to something, saying you read through it.

I don’t know if you’re deliberately trying to be obfuscating, but that’s not what happened at all. I never used an exchange until this happened: vBAT is eliminated (taking effect in April 2023). So Brave forced its users to transfer their balances to one of the two exchanges or lose the vBAT even if it was just for tipping. Why are we debating this?

The timing is dubious. The fact that Brave killed vBAT before finding a solution is dubious and one hell of a coincidence.

Ah, so we’re entering have you even read the ToS land. No wonder regulators are cracking down on enterprises dealing with cryptocurrencies. This is precisely why they’re being regulated. No morals or ethics. Land of the rugpulls and casino scam coins.

And you never was able to convert it to cash or do anything with it. It just sat in your browser as Rewards points (vBAT) that was untouchable by you except to tip Creators. You couldn’t send to any crypto addresses or anything.

Like I said, no changes being made. The only thing is they now are having it set where you can’t even earn unless you connect to an exchange first rather than having people build up credit first.

At least it was still in my possession until Brave found an on-chain solution. This is the core of the problem and why I’ll be uninstalling Brave and suggesting everyone else I know to do the same. I’m not one to encourage theft. And believe me, it’s only a question of principles. To me the amount of BAT each user had including myself is irrelevant. I don’t care about losing my balance, I’m okay with that. Theft is another thing though. There is a great nuance between losing something and having it taken away in a dishonest way. Did Gemini return the BAT they allegedly converted to fiat? Did they really convert it to fiat? How much are we talking about here? Just 10 BAT per user, assuming 100k users is already a million BAT. Does Brave even care to inquire?

Yes, Gemini gave to Users as far as I’ve been told. Assets remained in possession, the only thing is they stopped carrying the particular coins and narrowed down to specific area. They also sent emails out to people to give notice and let people make withdrawals or send to other exchanges.

This is what Brave is pushing to, but they have to clear the existing system first. We’re supposed to be getting the BAT Roadmap soon, which will speak on the on chain Rewards payments and all. They still haven’t given a timeline but have been sharing some teasers in recent months.

I don’t know, the entire experience with Brave has been very deplorable for a “privacy-centric” browser. This last turn of events not only cemented my distrust of the company but also caused me to recall certain past events that were equally dubious like when Brave browser would hijack links to certain sites and insert its referral id. When you view all these things together it makes you wonder if it’s appropriate to call Brave a browser or malware. Why didn’t Brave use Bitcoin + LN from the very beginning? This would have reduced any regulatory pressure to a nothingburger.

I’m chucking mine away. I am disgusted by the way Brave has handled this BAT thing since inception, not that they are an exception in this torrid crypto field. This KYC and following criminal government directives like they are god incarnate is pathetic.

But lets face it, most people and companies and institutions are pathetic.

If I knew it was all going to waste, I wish they would’ve let me know and I would have turned off those annoying ads that I kept for years.

I don’t see the reason for our vBAT to be annulled.

And now the same thing happened on my phone. A year and a half of living with ads down the drain.

For what ever reason Uphold will not let me make an account … neither would Gemini
I’m in the USA why did they take all my vBAT away ? What am i supposed to do going forwarded after I lost all my bat - I though I would at least be able to send it to creators but I can’t even do that now
