Every page flashes white while loading

Description of the issue:
When loading a new page or reloading idle tab, the page flashes white before going dark. This happens when using night theme and with sites which are natively dark too.
It’s very annoying when using phone in low light environment.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Load a page
  2. Reload idle tab

Expected result:
Page should be dark while loading (like it is in Safari)

Brave Version( check About Brave):
Version 1.73 (97)

Mobile Device details
iPhone 14 Pro 18.1.1

Additional Information:
This doesn’t happen with Safari on ios or with brave on Android

Be Prepared

Clear cookies, cache, history, etc.

ENABLE everything except:

  • Passwords and other sign-in data

(Myself, I would NOT make that exception)
(because I would have a backup prepared.)
(In other words, be prepared.)

Click on the “Clear data” button

The link doesn’t work on ios so i reset all settings from the menu, but it didn’t improve anything.
I also reinstalled brave, but that didn’t fix it either

Apologies, I corrected my earlier reply.

I use Brave Browser (iOS) and the Brave Browser Private Browsing Only mode. I set the Brave Browser Settings to be conservative.

And then use Brave Shields to make necessary site-specific changes.

Tips regarding Brave Shields:

I have more success, with:

  • Brave Shields UP
  • Either Allow All Cookies or Block 3rd Party Cookies, but NOT Blocking All Cookies
  • Allowing JavaScripts from specific sources, but NOT Allowing All JavaScripts
  • Trackers & Ads treatment: Aggressive (at first), and then incrementally relaxing that setting
  • Fingerprinting (aka footprinting) blocking: Strict (at first), and then incrementally relaxing that setting

I almost NEVER use:

  • All of Brave Shields UP
  • All of Brave Shields DOWN

@Wiley, not sure if you’ve been keeping up with the GitHub updates, but I noticed they closed the issue today and have a fix in progress. It’s unclear how long it will take to roll out. The fix seems planned for version 1.75, but I don’t know when that’s scheduled or if they’ll manage to include it earlier.

Since we’re currently on version 1.73, the next update would likely be 1.74 unless they skip it. That means it might be a little while before we see the fix.
