Data not syncing to or from Android device on sync chain

Description of the issue:
Browser not syncing between Windows and Android.

Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary)

  1. Enable sync on Windows machine
  2. Attach Android phone to sync
  3. Turn on sync all on phone and computer
  4. Wait
  5. Nothing happens

Reproduces how often:
Not applicable

Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu):
Android: 1.35.103 (Latest at the time of writing)

Type of devices currently running on the Sync chain in question:
1 Windows PC, 1 Android phone

Additional Information:
I have already turned on “Auto sync data” as suggested on the support page.

@ma100dev Just wanted to ask a simple question that I’m assuming you checked, but I just want to know for myself so I’m not making any wrong assumptions. If you go to brave://settings/braveSync/setup on both devices, are you able to see both devices listed under your existing sync chain Device List?

Like I said, not wanting to assume. We had someone a month or two ago who had added to sync chains but when they checked it, only their current device had shown even though they both had the same sync chain and all.


Android is only on that at the moment, but what about your Windows version? Current desktop is V1.36.109

Both devices do seem to show up (see picture). Just installed Brave on the PC today, so I’d assume that it’s the latest version to date.

@ma100dev of course it wouldn’t be something so simple we could solve! lol. So you’re not seeing any bookmarks, history, passwords, or anything be synced between the two of them? Or what is it you’re not seeing synced?

Not sure if we might get lucky on @Mattches or @steeven seeing this today. They are usually the ones to handle this I do believe. If you can try to DM them both, include screenshot of brave://sync-internals of your About section. It has some of the logs they’d need and general information. Not sure if they will ask you for anything else, but at least you’ll have a bit of a headstart in sending them info they could use to help.

I need to get more well versed in some of the coding and other things behind the scenes of it. At this point though, if everything is updated and on same sync chain, with both devices set to sync all according to Brave, I’m not sure what’s going on. Only thing I’d be able to suggest is trying to connect again or restart the devices.

As suggested above, can you please share a screenshot of your brave://sync-internals page so we can take a closer look at what’s going on?

Here’s the site from my phone, I’ll send one from the computer when I have time. Some things (passwords at least) have now been synced but history is one major thing that is still sadly missing from sync…

Everything appears to be okay based on your internals. The reason you may not be seeing all your history data synced is due to the way specific history data is generated. For example, the following history data will not be synced:

  • Page is opened from bookmark
  • Page is opened by clicking the link on the page
  • Page is opened by clicking the search auto-suggestion (if enabled) in address bar
