Brave will not open Youtube in a new tab

Description of the issue: When opening a youtube video in a new tab, youtube will take a very very long time to load. It goes to a bare bones youtube screen and none of the buttons on the screen will work. Refreshing does not fix the issue. This does not happen on other browsers like chrome or edge and it does not happen in private mode on brave. Other websites such as twitch or dailymotion work as expected.

Any youtube video that is opened with the “open in new tab” button

Did the issue present with default Shields settings? (Yes)

Does the site function as expected when Shields are turned off? No it does not function with shields on or off.

Is there a specific Shields configuration that causes the site to break? If so, tell us that configuration. (No):

Does the site work as expected when using Chrome? Yes, as well as edge and private mode in brave.

@LemonLimme these magic words usually pinpoints that it’s an extension you have that’s causing the problem. If not that, then it’s cookies. But I’d say like 99% of the time it means you have an extension that’s causing problems.

I’ve removed all extensions and the problem is still ongoing.

I’ve also cleared my cookies for youtube and that did not help either.

That’s very weird. 99.99% of the time when it works in private but not in normal, it’s one of these two

  • Can you share a screenshot of this happening?

  • Can you check Dev Tools (F12), looking at Console, maybe screenshot what you see there?

Like I said after a couple of minutes the video will suddenly start playing

Yeah, don’t worry about that. It will keep retrying and populating errors. I’m tagging @fanboynz in on this. But also just want to confirm one last thing.

You said:

  • You tried turning off Shields and it made no difference.
  • You’ve removed extensions, but no change.
  • You’ve cleared cookies (Well, for YouTube, but not all cookies, right?)
  • You tried on private window and it works fine.

I’m assuming if you did a new profile, it would work fine?

This seems more like you have Block Scripts enabled or you have some program/extension blocking. But if I’m right in what you said before, that isn’t the case.

Ive turned of shields and there was no difference. Ive removed all extensions and no change. Ive cleared all cookies incase something else could possibly be affecting it, still did not work. It works fine in private.

I just changed Brave profiles and youtube does work on that profile. Block scripts is not enabled for either profile though.

You are not the only one. It is happening with me as well. It was fine 10 hrs ago

The same thing happening to me.
I can open Youtube in new tabs only after activating VPN on my system (not browser VPN)

Edit: opening Brave in private mode fixes the issue too.

Same here, btw it’s not going in private mode that makes it work again, it’s being disconnected from youtube, if you disconnect from your google account you will be able to open videos on other tabs. It’s really weird.

Same here. I see its common issue right now when you want to open YT video in new tab.
But what I’ve natioced - it is happening only when I’m logged on my Google/YT account. Maybe it is Google “reward” after sending their messages about blocking ads, because I had blocker, but then I’ve turned it off but Big G remember that I don’t want to pay for Premium.
Does anyone with YT Premium has this problem? It would tell something at least…

It works fine for me now, i didn’t do anything, so either brave or youtube patched it maybe ?

Same issue here.
-with all extensions turned off, opening a youtube video in a new tab causes it to stall.
-If I switch to private mode, then youtube works normally.
*I also logged into my youtube account while in private mode, and youtube seems to work normally.
