Seems like since the last update (maybe for a month or so), Brave now periodically hangs when trying to go to a new site. No new website will load, not even Brave home page. I have to close brave, kill all processes and then reopen to get it to work. it happens very frequently (every other day) and is annoying. Did not have this issue with previous versions.
@sdub First thing, before I get into your issue, please do check out Tips for posting as it would help if you can do that in the future.
That said, I’m going to have to ask:
-
Which version of Brave are you using?
-
Which Operating System? (For example, Windows 11, Android 12, or what?)
-
Have you tried using in Private Window?
-
If on desktop, have you tried creating a new browser profile?
-
Have you toggled
Use hardware acceleration when available
inbrave://settings/system
? Usually turning off is what helps people, but put it in opposite setting to what you were using when you had issues. -
Is it crashing? If so, you should be able to go to
brave://crashes
where you can make sure it’s uploaded and then share theUploaded Crash Report ID
. -
Does this happen on all sites or only particular sites? Notice if any type of content matters? Like if it’s a video site vs text heavy?
Sure, sorry about that. Answers to questions below.
Brave Version 1.51.114 Chromium 113.0.5672.92 64 bit
Windows 11 OS
Yes even in a private window, websites will periodically hang
I will try creating a new profile next time it happens to test, and also test with hardware acceleration turned off.
Brave is not crashing, and when the issue occurs, no site will work. When you open a link or search in the URL bar at the top, it will not load the site or search. I’ve yet to identify what triggers this behavior, I’ve not installed any new extensions but it’s possible that an extension is interfering with newer versions of Brave. Will try to test this as well.
The only thing that works is killing all brave processes and restarting the program.
@sdub appreciate hearing back. It will definitely be helpful if you’ll be able to see on new profile. Most likely it wouldn’t be extensions if it is happening on Private as well, unless you have settings enabled to let extensions work in private window.
But running on new profile without changing settings and all should help rule out the idea of cookies, settings, and other little things like that. If it persists then just need to confirm it’s random links and not just particular sites acting up. Also might have you do one small test to see if disabling Shields matters.
Beyond that on your end would be checking firewall/vpn/proxy/antivirus to see if any of them (if you’re using) might play a part. And overall would then be me tagging Support in because I’d be out of ideas, lol.
