Brave Browser wont Open

Hello

Just want to know if anybody here have same issues like mine. This morning I couldn’t open my brave browser. I am using a Windows 10 PC.

No issues encountered on browser yesterday when I shut my pc down.

Edit: When Brave Browser Icon is clicked something pops up and then closes.

Could I install a new copy of brave browser and uninstall the current one? Problem is I have BATS which are not yet transferred to gemini since my region is not supported.

  1. Find the shortcut for Brave (generally on Desktop), right-click and select Properties from the context menu.
  2. Click into the “Target” field, and type --disable-gpu at the end of the path. Note that you must type this outside of the quotes with a space between the flag and quotes. It should look something like this:

  1. Click Apply then OK then open the modified shortcut you just created.
  2. Assuming this worked and you’re able to view Brave, open the main menu on the top-right
  3. Navigate to Settings --> Advanced --> System --> Hardware Acceleration
  4. Ensure this option is off. If not, toggle it off and relaunch:

  1. Now, return to the modified shortcut, remove the --disable-gpu flag from the Target path and launch Brave using that shortcut.

Check if this helps @skeith2002

Hello @SmartyAadi

Thanks for the assistance. But after following Step 3, I still wasn’t able to view brave.

@skeith2002 did you follow all steps?

Also check if this helps

@Mattches @SaltyBanana please help. Thanks!

Yes.

After Steps 1-3, when I click the modified shortcut a brief pop up window shows up and then disappears yet again.

Okay. Also try the things mentioned on another topic, I’ve linked above. I’ve tagged @Mattches & @SaltyBanana. Hopefully they’ll be here soon, to help you!

Hi

  1. Firs; save You Brave User Data; You may need it if you reinstall Brave. User date data includes your Brave profile ie bookmarks, Wallet, passwords, settings…

You will find it here by pasting the url in windows explorer %LocalAppData%\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\

or go to C:\Users*your windows account*\AppData\Local\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser
*Note You may need to unhide files in Explorer.

  1. In the desktop, right click the Brave icon and choose properties
  2. In the target field, delete all what’s in the field then paste this; “C:\Program Files\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\Application\brave.exe” --incognito –

  1. Tell me if Brave opens in incognito mode for further help.

This worked up to instruction number 5. However, once I followed instruction 6, browser wouldn’t open again.

Moreover, all the BATs and previous information saved in the browser are gone as if I’ve installed it a new.

I’ve saved items accordingly indicated in instructions 1. Same thing happen when I followed instruction 3. A pop up window opens and immediately closes.

Hoping this issue could be resolved as I’ve got no issues with the browser yesterday. And Hoping I could get the BAT’s since my region was tagged unsupported last March 2022.

Hi

I suggest the following:

If not working:

  • Uninstall Brave using REVO uninstaller and reinstall from url above.
  • Open C:\Users*your windows account*\AppData\Local\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser and rename use data to user data 2
  • Copy user data (you have saved before) and paste it in same location …\Local\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser.

Yes the reason your data was “gone” was because you had followed some of the steps above which ultimately create a new user data folder to reference rather than the one you use normally. This is a test done to see if there is something corrupted in your user data folder that is causing the crash. However, this does not appear to be the case.

So I would highly recommend re-naming/reverting any/all user data information and change back the target path for your shortcuts all back to their defaults before any further testing.

Once done, I would try what @CerealLover suggested and try re-downloading the installer and running it so that it fetches and applies the latest updates for the browser, then try launching again.

This helped. Thanks @CerealLover . I’ve uninstalled brave and reinstalled the updated version of it. But before anything else, I’ve copied up the user folder and moved it back once I’ve installed a fresh copy.

Also Thanks @Mattches, Hoping I would not encounter same issue in the future.

I have experienced this issue this morning and attempted to resolve using the advice given by @CerealLover but sadly I’m still seeing the crash happen.
I can prelong the crash by quickly navigating to the Settings page or some other website (from the dashboard) but Brave will still then crash after about a minute.
The last thing I recall doing was adding some additional news feed sources via the dashboard > customize > Brave news option but I’m unable to revert these changes as I’m not quick enough to get to this option before the Brave crashes again.
Every crash generates a memory dump file under C:\Users\-user-\AppData\Local\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data\Crashpad\reports
Is there anything else I can try before I look to set everything up from scratch from another clean install?
