Brave blocking every site I visit

Description of the issue:
After very little use of Brave, it starts blocking every site I try to visit. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and it didn’t help. I turned off “shields” and this didn’t fix it entirely. I read the page about shields but there is nothing about troubleshooting issues.

Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary): 1. 2. 3.
I don’t know because I don’t know what is causing the issue. The only change I made was adding Widevine so I can access Amazon videos. I removed it and relaunched and now some pages work and others don’t. LastPass shows no internet connection, but my other browsers are working fine. I can access but not without the page breaking.

Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!):

Expected result:
For a majority of webpages to work instead of a majority of webpages not working on default settings.

Reproduces how often:

Operating System and Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu):
MacOS 10.15.7
Brave is up to date (and reinstalled for troubleshooting)
Version 1.22.71 Chromium: 89.0.4389.114 (Official Build) (x86_64)

Additional Information:
How do I set up this browser to function correctly? The reason I switched to Brave is for security and privacy, however if I have to turn shields off for most pages, I’m not sure the point of using it. I have used it sporadically over about a week’s time, trying to test it out, and it’s functioning so poorly I cannot even use it.

Sorry to hear about the issues, I’ve browsed CNN and CreativeMarket, Target both seem to work

  1. Are you using a vpn or firewall software?
  2. Does private window mode help?

Thank you. You’re awesome. I forgot I was using a VPN extension that was still operating in the browser, so I didn’t think to check that because I have the desktop turned off. I really appreciate your help. Now I’m able to use the shields and visit these sites. As far as I can tell it all seems to be working properly.

Do you by chance know how to use a VPN so that all these sites aren’t blocked? I’ve had a VPN for a long time, but I often can’t use it because I just get blocked. So sometimes I wonder the point of it. lol

Depends on VPN software, might’ve been an issue with the location you’re connecting too. Some locations are slower than others, generally speaking the closer you are to the VPN the quicker it is.
