Address bar searches getting automatically highlighted at slight pause

Every time I open a new tab and type something I want to search for in the address bar, the text will be automatically highlighted and as a result it will be deleted within a few key strokes.

So if i wanted to type in “population”, as I’m starting to type, “pop” might get highlighted automatically so with the next key stroke it would get deleted resulting in only “ulation” in the address bar.

Any ideas on how I can resolve the issue?
