When opening a new tab, it selects the entire url entry, which has the effect of deleting it if I’m typing. It’s very aggravating to need to wait before I can start typing. See below:
+1, experiencing the same issue. This is an experience-breaking problem for me:
edit: my versions are:
Windows 10, version 1809 (64-bit); Brave version 0.62.50 Chromium: 73.0.3683.86 (64-bit)

Came here for this exact issue. Hopefully it is resolved ASAP. Browser needs to keep up with our speedy fingers.
Same issue! Love everything else but every new tab I open makes me want to switch browsers
Hello! +1, I have also been experiencing this as well, across the two laptops I’ve been using. Thought it was me accidentally hitting cmd-a (or control-a) but I’ve found out it is not the case. I’ve been having this issue for weeks.
I want to add that the same thing also happens when pasting a url into the address bar as well! Attaching a link to my video below to demonstrate this issue.
Also including this link from a github post from 2016. This also illustrates the problem: https://github.com/brave/browser-laptop/issues/2812
In case it is needed, I am running the brave browser version 0.62.51. Hope this gets fixed soon!
I’ve found a work-around! I found it lags trying to load the New Tab, but if there is already a New Tab loaded to the left of your active New Tab, it doesn’t lag at all! So here’s the trick:
Open a new tab, leave it blank with the cool picture and stats summary, and pin the tab. Now you can open new tabs and type as fast as you want!
To pin, right click the tab and select Pin tab
Hi challstrom,
I tested what you recommended with pinning the tab, to no avail. Is it only supposed to work when there is no pre-existing tab placed between the pinned tab and the new tab?
This is the particular arrangement I tested with, for reference. The new tab on the right still gets the bug, unfortunately.
