Does the site function as expected when Shields are turned off?
Yes, when the lion icon is black it was also slow
Is there a specific Shields configuration that causes the site to break? If so, tell us that configuration. (yes/no):
Since it’s slow with Shields off, I assume the problem is independent of the any shields configuration.
Does the site work as expected when using Chrome?
Yes, much faster, I’m using Version 111.0.5563.64 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Brave version (check About Brave):
Release Notes v1.49.120 (Mar 9, 2023)
Yes, it takes about 30 seconds either way, with 25+ seconds waiting for it to accept the password. But I have “2-step authentication” (2FA) enabled and if I disable that then Brave is “normal”.
I came up with the idea of disabling 2FA because Brave is slow after it accepts the password. I should have mentioned at in the original message, but since I’ve had 2FA enabled for years it didn’t dawn on me till now.
So the problem seems to be related to Google’s default 2FA handling (having the user click the “yes it’s me” button on the phone dialog box). And actually, at the moment I have to use sms 2FA because i’ve “failed” to many of Google’s default 2FA handling and now have to “wait a few hours”
@winksaville Not quite sure. I already lost track of topics but I know someone else recently mentioned issue with Google’s 2FA. It seems at this point you’ve kind of narrowed it down to that and some of the steps helps kind of show maybe it’s not much within Brave.
Issue here is I’m not sure what else to look at. Essentially would need someone like @fanboynz to know more on what’s going on and why it might be just happening in Brave but not other browsers.
My problem where Brave was slow logging into gmail is resolved. It seems to have to do with installing gnome-keyring yesterday. It is something to try if someone else runs into this problem.
