Hi, I have been using the brave browser now on OSX for about 6 months and opted to receive up to 5 ads an hour to earn BAT. I haven’t had any issues until I upgraded to OSX Catalina and since I have upgraded I have not received a single advertisement.
I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this issue or wether or not this is specific to me or wether it is specific to OSX. In the past I didn’t receive a great deal of ads but I did receive a small amount over the day.
.Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated.
This happened to me as well. It seems to be a known issue for a while, and I hope we get a fix soon.
I made sure to set notifications like this as well, in the interim:
@engro, @javajunky,
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We’ve had other reports of this and the team is working to address the issue presently. We hope to have more information on this soon – thank you for your patience.
Thank you for the quick reply.
What’s interesting is my Ads History shows as “Viewed” for all of the ads since I installed Catalina on 10/7/19. Nothing has popped up in the Notification Center, and that may be where the break is for me.
Any idea when that may happen man? I would also kindly ask how Brave plans to compensate its users for their unjustly lost earnings?..
@engro,
You say that they appear as “viewed” – can you tell me if you’ve also earned for these ads?
No BAT earn, just the notification as “viewed”. I’ll help you track it if you’d like. Here are my screenshots as of 8:33 PM EST on 10-11-19:
@engro,
Thanks for the information – appreciate your help. I’ll be opening an issue for this as well as a few other Catalina related issues tonight. I’ll be sure to include your reports in the thread.
I’ll return to link you to the Github issue when it’s made.
Description of the issue:
No ads are displaying on MacOS Catalina for either Brave or Brave Nightly. I know there are a couple other MacOS posts and while I did not want to duplicate a topic I posted this because I initially started troubleshooting because I have lost the ability to view or not view ads even though they are still displaying in my 7 day ad history as if I viewed them.
How can this issue be reproduced?
- Open Brave or Brave Nightly and browse the web for at least an hour
Expected result:
To see ads pop up to provide the opportunity to either view the ad or not view the ad
Brave Version( check About Brave
):
Brave Version: Version 0.69.135 Chromium: 77.0.3865.120 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Brave Nightly Version: Version 0.72.90 Chromium: 78.0.3904.50 (Official Build) nightly (64-bit)
Additional Information:
The interesting thing to me is I am seeing ads that say they have displayed in the 7 day ad history. I can still interact with the history in terms of thumbs up/down or like/not like the ad category. I do not have sync enabled and I have completely reinstalled both Brave and Brave Nightly during my testing.
The other thing I have noticed through testing is the current stable version of Brave (Brave Version) above is using what I would consider a normal amount of resources however the Brave Nightly version is using an abundance of resources when simply sitting on the DuckDuckGo.com homepage. No other tabs are open outside of Brave Rewards(brave://rewards) and I closed and reopened Brave Nightly to make sure a previous website did not have an issue with a script. Below is a screenshot of Activity Monitor showing Brave Nightly using high resources. My fan is constantly running on 2018 Macbook Pro with 16GB of RAM.
Just to note I am only showing the top three processes sorted by CPU %.
Just wanted to add one more nugget of information that I am guessing the development team is already aware of, but MacOS Catalina appears to have added more security/privacy enhancements that required me to reauthorize many things that were already authorized.
As an example I use the Zoom application for online meetings and in my first meeting after upgrading to MacOS Catalina I was required to reauthorize access in the following location…
OSX System Preferences window >> Security & Privacy >> Privacy Tab
- Microphone Access
- Camera Access
- Screen Access (To provide the ability to share a file in real time to other users in the meeting)
- Files & Folders (Had to authorize Zoom to be able to download files to the Downloads folder)
Just wondering if the restrictions that were added in MacOS Catalina caused something in Brave to continue to attempt to do something that previously did not require authorization within MacOS.
Thanks for a great browser and for being so responsive in helping users resolve their issues in this forum!
Thanks.
Alex
@daky,
Thank you so much for the detailed report – we’ve been diagnosing OS Catalina issues on our end as well and this particular issue is known and has been reported.
I hope you don’t mind, but I’ve gone ahead and merged your report with the larger thread of other users reporting the same behavior in order to better track data surrounding the issue.
Not at all, I had “ads” in my head so missed the title of this one when looking for something similar.
Much appreciated!

Hello,
I have same issue since I switched to Catalina
It stinks, but the Brave team will get it fixed.
Has this been addressed/solved since the last reply in this thread two weeks ago?
I’m just glad I finally found this forum I’ve been going nuts for weeks trying to figure out why I’m not seeing ads anymore. Like everyone else I’ve seen no ads since I installed Catalina. Is there a fix out or anything yet?
I really enjoy using Brave, primarily for the ad rewards, so if you guys can’t fix this issue soon I’ll be going back to Chrome.
Happy to report that I was able to upgrade Brave a couple hours back and ads are now displaying on MacOS Catalina.
Great work Brave team!
Yes I confirm. Its work perfectly now !
