TOR remains "Disconnected"

When opening a Private window with TOR on Win 10, the TOR status remains at “Disconnected”
I have tried the actions in the appropriate FAQ :-
so have disabled and then reenabled TOR, closing the browser in between
I can also access the TOR Project web site without a problem,
Brave is running on Windows 10 Home V21H2

Any ideas or suggestions?

Expected result: Private Window with TOR should connect via TOR

Version 1.33.106 Chromium: 96.0.4664.110 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Apologies, TOR has now connected whilst I was typing this post. It stayed “Disconnected” for more than 10 minutes, so patience seems to be required!

Thanks for your response. I have now had a TOR window open for half an hour, still “Disconnected” :frowning:

Has anyone found anything to give it a “kickstart”?

Have a look at the Logs tab in brave://tor-internals/, it might help point in the right direction.

Another common problem is the use of a DNS provider that blocks Tor. Try opening https://www.torproject.org/ in a browser to see whether that’s the problem.

I have experienced similar issues with “New private window with Tor (Alt+Shift+N).”

Sometimes it connects to the Tor network right away. Sometimes it takes several minutes. Other times, it won’t connect at all.

Then there’s the issue where Brave connects to the Tor network, but the destination Tor node (extremely well known node and 100% reliable) won’t recognize Brave’s attempt to connect via Tor.

I’m thinking Brave’s implementation of Tor remains buggy.

I suggest Brave open up a special section of the Community for users to post detailed system information in conjunction with failed or faulty Tor connections.

That is, of course, if you want to lead the pack in excellence… :slight_smile:

Thanks all for the suggestions, but it still takes an inordinate amount of time to Connect, and some times it just doesn’t!
Once Connected, if I close the Private Window and the re-open it, the status is again Disconnected and I have to just wait again.

Windows proxy settings are set to OFF
Background Apps is OFF in the Brave settings
I can always access the TOR Project website without any issues
The “TOR Internals” link shows only the status, nothing in the Logs or Control Events tabs. Maybe there is a “debug level” somewhere to raise?

Anyone tried the TOR browser itself alongside Brave to check connectivity?

This morning I have tried the TOR Browser and that connects immediately.

However, a Brave Private Window with TOR took more than 10 minutes to connect in the first instance. My second attempt after closing and re-opening Brave is still Disconnected after about 15 Minutes

Sadly, I have found the Private Window with TOR to be effectively unusable :frowning:

It can NOT be relied on to “Connect” to the TOR network in any sort of reasonable timescale.

Could the development team please pick this up and investigate?
