I had checked the default browser. But after all the steps I tried, I took another look at the Content Type preferences. I saw Brave listed for http and https, but the icon for the latter was not the Brave icon, just some generic bank page type of thing. So I reapplied that selection and the correct icon reappeared. Nothing changed, then I thought I’d try another restart. After that links worked.

I tried everything that was suggested in a previous post as well as restarting a couple of times during that process: Thunderbird incoming email links won't open in Brave
Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!):
No change, except for when testing with a “fresh” start (renaming my profile) it said it couldn’t find a profile.
