Description of the issue: How can this issue be reproduced?
since the update, and the password missing thing, i noticed that now the icon, downward arrow, for tab search has gone, i use vertical tabs, and toggling “show tab search button” has no effect when i use vertical tabs
It works as normal if i switch to horizontal tabs
Opening a new tab or window has the same results
The only way to search the tabs is via the little magnifying glass icon, shown when i expand the vertical tabs.
@6gsa8gg897dsfg6987g6, not sure if you’re the same person from Reddit, but long story short, it’s a UI choice. The tab search button you mentioned is for horizontal tabs. If you’re using vertical tabs, the search is the magnifying glass in the vertical tab area, so the button disappears from the horizontal section.
The thing is, before the recent update that also removed people’s stored passwords in the password manager, i had the icon displayed, the down facing arrow, for tab search in the same place as when horizontal tabs is chosen.
If i remember correctly, i think i had to use a command/ turn on a flag, via the address bar to get the old tab search icon to be seen with vertical tabs.

@6gsa8gg897dsfg6987g6 password thing is a Chromium issue and not just Brave. You can see that at https://issues.chromium.org/issues/354847250 and in many cases the passwords are still there but just not being accessed due to encryption and all. They are working on it.
As to mention of the flag to change things, that’s old. As designs change, flags come and go. There currently is not a toggle to make that same that’s available in horizontal tabs to be available in vertical tabs at this time.
And yeah, the search glass on vertical tabs remains regardless. No way to disable that as far as I’m aware. I’ll tag in @Mattches just in case he’s aware of anything different, but I believe it’s just something people are “stuck with” at the moment. Though they will take note of your request and if there’s enough people, might make some changes.
That magnifying glass is how you search tabs when vertical tabs are enabled. I think it stays there regardless of the setting in Appearance --> Tabs since its only visible when the panel is expanded anyway.
