Minimize Tabs icon (of vertical tabs) changed to square bracket; how to change back?

Somehow during touch screen handling, the Minimize Tabs icon at the upper left of the vertical tabs pane changed on one of our family’s systems (Brave 1.68.134 on Windows 11). Instead of the original graphic, it’s now a simple left (opening) square bracket. Even completely deinstalling and reinstalling Brave doesn’t bring the normal icon back. (No, sync is not used for this Brave instance.)

Any idea how to get a normal icon back?
