Square boxes appears instead of Text for Language other than English

Description of the issue:
The text in some areas appears as squares (not rendered correctly) In Websites like https://www.tnesevai.tn.gov.in/ , https://tnuwwb.tn.gov.in/.

Left : Brave | Right : Vivaldi

How can this issue be reproduced?

1. Launch Brave
2. Open a website with Language Tamil. For eg.https://www.tnesevai.tn.gov.in/
3. It can be noticed that the text in some areas is not rendered correctly and appears as squares.

Expected result:
The text is rendered and displayed properly.

Brave Version( check About Brave):
Version 1.68.141 Chromium: 127.0.6533.120 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Additional Information:

• This issue is not occurring in Firefox (Installed as snap) or Vivaldi (Installed as Flatpak) …
• The issue persist even with ‘Use graphics acceleration when available’ and all extensions turned off.
• The texts in the Language Tamil seems to be affected (English renders fine).

Info about system
Brave is installed via APT.
Graphics: AMD Radeon™ Graphics
OS Name: Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
Windowing System: Wayland

Will re-installing brave solve the issue?

@newer likely the issue is with your dont packaging in OS. Try changing the font settings in Brave at brave://settings/fonts. For example, a while back someone in India had Times (Not sure how they had that as isn’t usually seen) for their font and it caused breakage. Changing to Time New Roman had things appear fine.

I just tested on mine and, well:

If changing font doesn’t resolve, then I’d advise you to test in a private window. Then if still have issue, test in a new browser profile.

Changing the standard font in brave://settings/fonts to ‘Noto Sans Tamil’ made the text render Fine.
