Search in address bar takes me to blank google.com page

Description of the issue:
How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Type any words to search with google.com as default search engine
  2. Hit enter
  3. Nothing is searched for and google.com appears (doesnt seem to happen for any other search engines)

Expected result:

Words put in address bar should google terms as a search automatically

Brave Version( check About Brave):

1.40.105 Chromium: 103.0.5060.53 Official Build 64-bit

This does seem strange. Are you still having this issue?

Have you updated Brave to the latest version (1.40.109 at this point)?

If you could include a short recording/clip of the behavior it might help us understand what’s going on.

Until then, do you have any extensions installed/enabled? If so, does it still happen with them all disabled?

Does the issue occur in a Private window?

Try this

Add another instance of google search engine with the following info:

Search engine: googlecom
Shortcut: :gl
URL
https://www.google.com/search?q=%s

Make the “new google” as default search engine.

I had the same issue incognito as well as extensions disabled. I uninstalled chrome and brave deleting all history and then restarted a few days ago, waited a bit, reinstalled both and the issue is gone. I tried a reinstall before that and issue was still present so I tried to clear everything I could which helped it. I was afraid it was some kind of malware but it legit went to Google.com, not a spam site.

Long story short, it’s gone now after a full uninstall and delayed reinstall. Never figured it out. Thanks for getting back to me.
