Getting issues with searching

(https://www.reddit.com/r/brave_browser/comments/e9qcvs/getting_issues_with_searching/)
I’m a new Brave user so hopefully someone here can help with an issue I’ve found: I like to search directly in the address bar. I use Ctrl+T and then just start typing (as shown in picture 1)! After searching this way, my default search engine Google will give a whole bunch of results (pic 2).

Here’s where the fun annoying thing starts. After clicking on a link from the search results, a new tab will open (pic 3) and then quickly redirect to…yahoo search? (pic 4). Not only does this open the new tab (and the browser switches to this new tab), it doesn’t actually open the link that I want (I have to navigate back to the previous tab and then click on it again. The second time around, it works.)

I don’t have any new extensions that I’m aware of compared to when I used chrome (in fact I have far fewer)…any help is appreciated!

This is reproducible if not every time, then nearly every time

@zhouster,
Can you try performing the same test with a new browser profile? This way we can test and see if the issue is with the browser itself or with the browsing profile and/or one of the (many) extensions you have installed. A fresh profile will start with no browsing data/cache and no extensions installed. If you’re unsure how to do this:

  1. Open the Profile menu
  2. Select Manage Profiles
  3. Then select Add profile and allow the browser to launch a new window (as that profile).
  4. Now, ensure your default engine is set to Google and perform the same test as you described initially.

Let me know the results of the test.
