Refund request , was charged immediately for a free trail

Description of the issue:

Hello everyone, I recently encountered an issue with Brave app on my iPhone, and I’m hoping someone here can help. When I tried to enable the VPN feature in the app, it took me to a screen offering a ‘7-day free trial.’ Thinking it was a free trial, I went ahead and activated it. However, instead of waiting for the trial period to end, the app immediately charged my debit card over $100 without any warning or confirmation.

I was shocked and confused because I didn’t expect to be charged upfront, especially when it was advertised as a free trial. I’ve already requested a refund through Apple, but I’m not sure if they’ll approve it or how long it might take.

I’m feeling stuck and don’t know what else I can do to resolve this. If anyone has experienced something similar or knows how to handle this type of situation, I’d really appreciate your advice. Thank you in advance!

How can this issue be reproduced?

1.Try to turn on vpn
2.Click on the free trail button
3.”activate the free trial” :frowning:

Expected result:
Get a 7 day free trial instead of getting charged immediately without the trial

Brave Version( check About Brave):
Version 1.71 (125)

Mobile Device details
iPhone 14 Version 17.6.1

@Mijar two things:

  1. It wouldn’t be the app charging you. Signing up on iPhone goes through Apple’s App Store. This is where your subscription would go through. If they charged, it wouldn’t have been Brave but the App Store

  2. It shouldn’t have charged unless you had used the trial before. I’m not sure if you or someone else with access to your device might have done it in the past?

If you’re doing this right along as you’re making it sound then they generally have been good on reversing it. If you paid and have been using it a while, then unlikely to see it refunded.

Not sure either. Often have to wait and go through Apple’s process. If they do deny it you can always create a Premium Support Ticket at https://support.brave.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=360003078831 which will submit the issue to Brave. But I would hold off overall until you hear back on your refund request you made through Apple.

SIDE NOTE
You put this under Mobile Support when it should be under Firewall + VPN. I’m going to go ahead and move your topic over to the proper category.

@Saoiray Thank you so much for your help. I recently started using the Brave browser, just the free version, and it’s been working well for me so far. I decided to give their VPN a try since I already use Brave and thought it might be a good addition, you know? This would be my very first time purchasing any product or service from Brave, as I’ve never felt the need to pay for anything before.

I also want to clarify that I’ve never used the trial feature before now, so this situation is entirely new to me. Plus, I’m the only person who has access to my device, so there’s no chance someone else accidentally triggered the purchase. I’m hoping this information helps shed some light on my case. Thanks again for your assistance!

@289wk I canceled the subscription as soon as I noticed that I was charged directly. I didn’t waste any time once I realized what happened, but unfortunately, the charge had already gone through. I was hoping that by canceling it, the issue would resolve itself, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Follow the advice of @Saoiray , and try not to worry about what happened.

@289wk But honestly, I’m really worried, haha, because that’s over $100 that I need right away, and it just disappeared. I wasn’t expecting this at all, and now I’m stuck trying to figure out how to get it back.
