Reader-mode icon suddenly not appearing on paywalled websites

Troubleshooting technical issues is much easier when both the user and support agent practice clear communication. For this reason, we have provided the template below for you to fill out with information about your issue. Please provide as much detail as possible so we can most efficiently resolve your problem.

Description of the issue:

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Go to foreignpolicy.com and open any article: in previous versions, reader-mode would be available and effectively bypass the paywall.
  2. Go to NYT or similar websites, same issue.
  3. Unpaywalled websites and articles will still show the reader-mode icon in the address bar.

Expected result:

Reader mode should always be possible to be forced / appear.

Brave Version( check About Brave):

@Geeljere not all websites have reader modes. They actually have to code for it to permit it to happen. Some of the sites you listed likely have removed capabilities because of people trying to abuse it to circumvent subscriptions or to try to force you to see ads.

You’ll see that if you go to those sites using Safari or Chrome, they don’t have it in simplified view or reader mode either.
