Not launching browser


Description of the issue:

Brave browser will not open after restarting PC. PC prompts a ‘loading wheel’ on curser upon launching Brave, it then disappears and Brave never opens.

Brave is not present in my Task Manager apart from multiple “Brave software update”. I had previously updated my browser very recently and there should be no necessary updates.

How can this issue be reproduced?

Unsure of how to reproduce this as it has happened more or less completely randomly.

Expected result:

Brave should open

Brave Version( check About Brave):

Cannot open Brave therefor cannot check ‘About Brave’ section

Additional Information:

I have troubleshooted many steps to resolve this, all seem to require having access to some form of Brave browser opening successfully, of which I cannot do because the browser never launches.

What version of Windows are you on?

Is any antivirus or other security software (besides MS Defender) installed?

What happens if you do the following (from a command prompt or PowerShell prompt):
cd 'C:\Program Files (x86)\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\Application'
.\brave.exe --disable-gpu

Windows 10 Pro, Version 21H2

I have Malwarebytes premium.

I have run this from command prompt, I do not get any errors but my browser still fails to open.

Can you try temporarily disabling Malwarebytes and see if the issue persists?

I’m having same problem. Brave opens to a black screen. I’ve tried to install the most recent version, but it gives me an error message…"Failed to cashe downloaded installer. Error 0x80070070

Hi @Coloradogirl , this might be a different issue from the original one from this thread.

But my first guess at yours is, are you possibly running out of disk space?
