My most recent Bookmarks are gone

I’ve been using Brave for 3 months now, and it was decent, but today I turned on my computer, and every bookmark I’ve made in the last 3 months is just gone. I was really confused because the bookmarks were there yesterday before I turned my PC off. I noticed some other things, like it logged me out of every account and the site cookies were gone, but I don’t care that much about those. I’d really like my bookmarks back because that’s what I used to mark every story I was reading and what chapter I read last.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Turn on computer.
  2. open browser app.
  3. Find out that my bookmarks are missing. All the cookies were deleted. Signed out of all accounts.

This is the first time I’ve lost my bookmarks.

Brave Version 1.73.101

I’m on Windows 10

If anyone could tell me how to get my bookmarks back, I’d be eternally grateful

New development: I restarted my computer and the bookmarks are back. How do I set up some sort of protection/backup in case this ever happens again?

EDIT: I synced the pc Brave with the phone Brave. Is there anything else I could do? These bookmarks are important to me

Be Prepared

Clear cookies, cache, history, etc.

In a Brave Browser New Window, go to:

brave://settings/clearBrowserData

Select the Advanced tab

Set Time range to “All time”

ENABLE everything except:

  • Passwords and other sign-in data

(Myself, I would NOT make that exception)
(because I would have a backup prepared.)
(In other words, be prepared.)

Click on the “Clear data” button

STUDY all of the tabs: Basic, Advanced, and On exit

Tips regarding Brave Shields:

I have more success, with:

  • Brave Shields UP
  • Either Allow All Cookies or Block 3rd Party Cookies, but NOT Blocking All Cookies
  • Allowing JavaScripts from specific sources, but NOT Allowing All JavaScripts
  • Trackers & Ads treatment: Aggressive (at first), and then incrementally relaxing that setting
  • Fingerprinting (aka footprinting) blocking: Strict (at first), and then incrementally relaxing that setting

I almost NEVER use:

  • All of Brave Shields UP
  • All of Brave Shields DOWN

What I do, in order to Allow specific JavaScript sources - an example:

On desktop / laptop computers:

In a Brave Browser New Window, go to:

brave://settings/content/javascript

Scroll down that javascript settings page to Allowed to use javascript

Click the Add button

Enter [*.]website_of_interest.com as the site . . . but do not Enable the following:

  • Current Private session only

Click the Add button

(You would replace the character string, “website_of_interest.com” with your domain of interest.)
