I updated my AMD driver and when it finished updating I opened Brave as normal and everything was super slow, I uninstalled and reinstalled it 3 times and it was still the same, I don’t know what happened inside my computer, but all the other applications work fine, it’s just BRAVE. And I really love Brave, I’ve used it for like 4 years and this just happened to me.
@Matita600, it looks like this was placed in the wrong category. It was marked as a feature request for the browser, but I’m moving it to Desktop Support so it’s in the correct section.
I think for anyone to help, some more information and troubleshooting steps will be necessary. I’ll list a few of them below. If you can respond with more details, that would be helpful.
Important Information Needed
-
What specific version of Brave are you using? (e.g., 1.23.456)
-
I see you selected Windows. Which version specifically? (e.g., Windows 10, 10 Pro, 11, 11 Pro)
-
You mentioned all other applications work fine. Does this include other browsers? For example, have you tried Chrome?
-
When you say things are slow, can you describe what you mean? Is it slow to open Brave, slow to load sites, lag when scrolling, or something else? More specific details can help pinpoint the issue.
-
Does Brave ever crash, or is it just running slowly?
Things to Check
-
Try disabling hardware acceleration at
brave://settings/system
. Does that help? -
Do you notice any difference in performance when using a private window?
-
Do you have any extensions installed? If so, try disabling them to see if performance improves.
-
Can you install Brave Beta or Brave Nightly to see if the same issue occurs there?
-
When it’s running slow, do you notice increased RAM or CPU usage? If so, check Brave’s task manager and share a screenshot or details about what is using the most resources. You can usually open it with Shift+ESC, or use the menu (three dots in the top right) → More Tools → Task Manager. This will show all of Brave’s active processes and can help identify if something specific is causing the slowdown.
Hey, ty for your fast answer, yeah the problem was solved when I disabled the hardware acceleration. I did it with the help of chat gpt btw haha.
But ty so much for your answer
@Matita600 Just so you know, disabling hardware acceleration (graphics acceleration) is not a solution by itself. It is just one step to help narrow down the issue.
When you disable it, your system uses only the CPU instead of the GPU, which can sometimes lead to worse performance.
However, if you see an improvement after disabling it, that suggests the issue is related to your graphics settings. You might want to check your AMD settings, especially anything that interacts with Brave, and see if there is anything you can adjust.
I mean, if everything works perfectly fine as it is, then maybe it’s no big deal. I just wanted to point this out in case you or anyone else who comes across this thread is unaware. It does take some extra time to go through the settings and test different configurations, which can definitely be annoying, but sometimes that extra effort is what leads to a proper fix.
