Media inside browser unusable

As of 9/29/2024 media (embedded mp4, twitter video content, youtube, rumble, bitchute) inside Brave has become extremely laggy, desynched and stutters regardless of the streamed video quality. It was like a switch was thrown; the night before, flawless. Next morning, awful.

Windows 10 Pro 22H2 19045.4894
AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 12-Core Processor-3.79 GHz
32gb 2133 memory
Nvidia RTX 2080 Super - driver build 561.09
Version 1.70.119 Chromium: 129.0.6668.70 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Resource usage (CPU) is indicated to be “very high” approx. 8%
Memory is about half consumed in total with Brave accounting for 2gb.

Reboots do not matter.
I have turned off GPU acceleration as suggested elsewhere: no effect
I have tried Firefox, issues not present.
I have tried Edge, issues not present.
I have tried Chrome, issues not present.
Less than 30 tabs open with memory management turned on.
I use NO extensions.
I use a 3rd party VPN and the issue persists with or without VPN turned on.

@bequin,
Thank you for reaching out and for the detailed report.
Can you please try creating a fresh, temp. profile (Menu --> More tools --> Add profile), closing your original profile window (so that you only have the new one open) and see if the issue reproduces in the fresh profile as well?

@Mattches

I created a new profile and the issue has replicated.

Disabling HW acceleration will cause CPU usage to increase. Would suggest to keep enabled.

Also test in Brave Beta as another option.
