MacOs Desktop App High Memory Consumption While Streaming Video

As for the extension, i removed it from the browser a week ago, but reinstalled it yesterday night only after seeing that Insta also started using high Memory, So doesnt seem that the extension affects at all!!
About Memory Saver, i enabled it a week ago only, and no difference was visible as it only freed up memory from the inactive tabs.
Task Manager Screenshot i have added while Insta is on 1GB Memory usage. Before taking this screenshot, the extension has been disabled, browser also restarted.

From previous issues I know Dark reader can impact performance, not sure if its the same here.

Well as i mentioned, Dark Reader was disabled while taking the above screenshot, so certainly what could be the issue behind it, and is there any way to resolve it??

What does the right click/memory options in task manager show? Would test in the current Chrome release also, if the issue is upstream.

Umm… not quite sure what you asked for, but attaching the screenshot below if it helps!!

Would test in Chrome also. (in the case the issue is from upstream).

But that screenshot isn’t too bad, regarding memory. Nothing too suspect.

Probably the only way to get an idea on the time frame when it occured, assuming its a recent bug. Would be to do regression testing. And yeah its time consuming, I have done plenty of these previously. I would normally do regression testing, but since I’m unable to repo this.

https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/releases maybe start from Nightly v1.63.51 https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/releases?page=50 and either work forward or backwards until you hit the bad Brave build.

Using the older Nightly build versions, (uninstall and re-install) until you hit the first “bad” build. Then re-confirm by installing a good build, then re-install the bad build.

I applaud your patience in dealing with the Kiwi as they continue to wriggle out of actually dealing with this issue which extends far beyond you.

Buddy see, earlier i have also not been nice to him, but i just kept a cool mind and thought about it. I am also an aspiring programmer, and thinking as a programmer instead of a frustrated customer, i understood that on Humanitarian grounds, whenever there is a a new bug, the programmers are not sure where to start looking for the error and that too in such a big code. So definitely we need to provide info we have about the issue and what they are asking us, and be patient for some time so that they can look for the error work on resolving it!!

It’s not about patience per se, it’s about being heard. Kiwi’s bedside manner, as it were, leaves a lot to be desired. If I’m bothering to log in & say something, it’s because there’s a real issue. Ain’t nobody trying to live life on some random community board randomly complaining. In the words of Debra Wilson as a cracked out Whitney Houston on MadTv, “I said, fix it!”

Well maybe you are right, but i’ll just suggest that let bygones be bygones, forget what happened in the past and just live the moment, be happy and not ruin our mood by getting irked due to something that happened 2 weeks back. I hope that the Kiwi will be active in the other upcoming posts and try do his best.

2 weeks? There are threads going back years. This is not a new issue. I’ve already done my research. I’ll let it go when the issue is fixed.

My point is, don’t tell me because the sky is blue & the sun is out, it’s not raining. I’ve already told you we need an umbrella. The approach to customer service from Mr. Down Under is lacking even as the issue persists.

Not sure why you think Task Manager gives more details than Activity Monitor, cause I sure don’t see any, and actually less than in my AM. In both, however, it shows the Brave GPU at 8GBs, and the CPU usage bounces around from 10 to as high as 90+%.
This has been happening on my iMac ever since the latest version of Brave, or actually since the one before that, as there was another one, just a couple days ago. Not sure why playing just one video at a time should be using that much RAM. But it’s definitely a persistent issue…

I use the builtin task manager because it will highlight with tab/extension/process showing excessive use. But here is my a test with 20+ tabs open, opening various websites from fark.com. As a side note, I will not respond to condescending posts or responses either.

  • No extensions
  • Just a clean Brave Beta build
  • HW Acceleration = Enabled
  • Memory Saver = Enabled (if it matters)
  • On an Mac book m2 Air (16 Gb Ram)

Can you share what point you’re making with all these screenshots? Are you saying the Brave GPU isn’t using far too much memory & resources? Maybe you aren’t seeing it, but when I open the Brave Task Manager, it’s currently showing the GPU is using 8.8 GB of RAM, and 97.6% of CPU. And I’m streaming video in one window, no others.

Well, so two things

  • What conclusions should be drawn from these images?
  • As previously stated, merely having multiple tabs open does not result in excessive memory usage; rather, using them continuously for 30 minutes or longer does. So far, watching a live stream on YouTube or using Instagram for 20-30 minutes has resulted in 1-1.5GB of memory usage, even though that is the only private/non-private tab open in the browser!

Sure, I’ll re-do some screenshots of having a few youtube stream for 3hrs.

Streaming 3 youtube streams of the following lofi for 3 hours. (Plugged into Battery)

  • On an Mac book m2 Air (16 Gb Ram)
  • Enabled experimental list, to allow all 3 video streams to work without page view detection.

Wowww!!! This is pretty tiring and strange!! :joy:

For reference, i play his live stream mostly. He will start streaming around 7 hours from now!! So it would be great if you just start the stream, keep the system aside, keep the stream and youtube unmuted, mute the system sound and wait for next 1hr for the results.

I chose 3 live youtube streams to push system resources, to push GPU, to push CPU, to push RAM. More youtube streams, the more stress you put on any system. Trying to trigger the resources issues.

Happy to test other videos, how long for?

I believe 1 Hour is enough!!
Also tell me 1 more thing, if i do the same testing the way you are doing, and give you the results, would it help you identify the cause?
