Description of the issue: Password manager wipes itself after restart of browser. How can this issue be reproduced?
Install Brave freshly via the command specified here (official Brave guidelines) OR update existing version to 1.77.95 (both do the same)
Import passwords (via sync or CSV, problem happens in both)
Expected result: Passwords persist upon browser restart, autofill appears when accessing sites saved in manager.
** Actual results: ** passwords are registered in the Manager, but no autofill options appear when trying to access sites with saved passwords. Always prompted to save password upon login, even when the introduced password had already been saved. Clicking “save” on the prompt does not seem to do anything (still no autofill and prompted to save on login again) - The passwords get wiped after restart of browser and all entries in the Password Manager disappear but one (always the same site), with a corrupted password, DESPITE SYNC BEING OFF
Troubleshooting steps attempted:
wiping .cache/BraveSoftware and .config/BraveSoftware dirs.
rebooting the machine
Exiting/entering sync chain
Installing Beta build
Rolling back to v1.76.82 - this fixed it.
Brave Version( check About Brave): 1.77.95 and beta 1.78.74
Same thing here, I’m starting to think I should just switch to a different browser.
Now that Brave no longer gives out BAT they’re not of much use to me anymore.
I’m using Ubuntu 22.04 with KDE Plasma 5.24.7
For the Nightly Version, 1.78.55 does not work, but 1.78.49 (the previous version I can get) does work, sites stay logged in and passwords are saved successfully.
Now onto the normal version! Wish me luck!
I can confirm that 1.77.95 does not work and the version @nxtr downgraded to (1.76.82) does work, my saved passwords reappeared and sites now stay logged in.
The same thing happens to me, 1.77.95 does not keep login sessions, and does not remember password. But when downgrade to a previous version it works again
I lucked out as they have problem with password sync in the past. So, I switched to KeePass and never look back.
This is not their first. It is the challenge of maintaining a large downstream project.
Password manager in browser is easy for getting started, but once understanding the benefits, switching to a proper one is the way to go. It is more convenient and more customizable. For example, it enables sharing the same identity across platforms (different subdomains, app, website), etc.
