How NOT to have brave as default browser?

seems my problem is the other way around then the Topics on the “default browser” matter here thus far.

  • debian 9 / xfce
  • Version 0.69.135 Chromium: 77.0.3865.120 (Official Build) (64-bit)
  • APT-Sources: https://brave-browser-apt-release.s3.brave.com trusty/main amd64 Packages

now as much as I like to use brave I still want another browser to be set as default. But brave does not seem to care whether I tell Firefox to be my default, nor is there any switch in the settings of brave where I can turn “is default browser” off. It just informs me that it is the default.

I tried to reinstall brave, but somehow that setting remained. Would I need to clear some .brave directory anywhere maybe and likewise come to a clean new install (where brave was not yet the default browser), or what is the solution in store for this?

eventually I found a solution even though I believe the right way to do this was having a s switch “make brave your default browser” in the brave preferences which you can turn on/off.

I searched for “preferred applications” on my system and set FF as the default for ‘Web browser’.
