Help with lag when dragging anything

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Simply drag pretty much ANYTHING on Brave (images, link, tabs, bookmarks). Dragging the window itself dont lag

Expected result:

No lag when dragging stuff

Brave Version( check About Brave):

Version 1.28.106 Chromium: 92.0.4515.159 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Additional Information:

I don’t know if this is Brave or Linux issue, but this ONLY happens on Brave. Firefox and chromium (ungoogled) works fine when dragging stuff. This is happening for a while, its not recent.

It is not showing on the video, but when I drag the icon, my cursor moves on the right speed, but not the “link preview”.

That is how it looks.

I see that you have quite a few extensions installed at this time and there’s a good chance that one of them is producing this behavior. Can you try creating a new temp. browser profile and test to see if dragging different items behaves the same way when using the new profile?

Make sure you only have one window (with the newly created profile) open when performing the test.

Ok, I just created a new profile, unfortunately, its still happening :frowning:

Interesting. Long shot but can you try disabling Hardware Acceleration in settings to see if this resolves the issue?

You’ll find this in Settings --> Additional Settings --> System --> Hardware Acceleration

@Mattches Pretty much the same.
Since I had to relauch to apply the settings, I noticed that right after starting the browser it works fine, but after some few seconds It starts lagging. (with hardware acceleration on or off).

EDIT: ok, after some tests, its not really “fine”, but slightly better, but I’m not even sure if I can say that there is a difference. Its still really annoying.

Would you be willing to download and test our Beta build and check to see if you get the same behavior when using it? Note that you can download/install/run the Beta without interfering with your current installation.

@Mattches I was pretty optimistic that reseting my browser would fix this, so I imagined that your suggestion would work, since I just installed the Beta build, but the problem is still happening :frowning:

@Codesalot not sure, but probably only on Linux, and maybe something very specific.

I am starting to consider that this may be a Linux specific issue – let me reach out to some team members for more information.

Thank you for your patience.

Which Linux distribution are you using? Do you know whether you’re using Xorg or Wayland?

Debian 10. I’m using Xorg

Can you please go to brave://gpu and click the Copy report to clipboard button at the top? The report is quite large so it won’t fit in a single post – paste the report into a text editor and send it to me as an attachment in DM.

Thank you. Lastly, can you tell me whether any crashes appears in your brave://crashes page? If so, can you send me a DM with their crash report IDs?

No crashes.

I’d like to add that I’m also experiencing this issue on Ubuntu 21.04.
I also run Windows on the same hardware (dual boot). This issue is Linux-only.
This occurs in both regular mode and software rendering mode.
