Lag on new tab launch

Just downloaded Brave for a spin and it’s been great, with one annoyance. Whenever I open a new tab the explorer bar lags for a while (more than 10 seconds) before whatever I type finally appears. I saw a similar issue was reported in April, and someone suggested then that it was a known bug in an earlier version of Chromium, but Chromium has updated from 73 to 75 and it’s still an issue.

The issue happens every time I open a new tab. If I alt-tab out of Brave I can’t alt-tab back in, as if the whole browser is frozen.

@mvo,
Thank you for reaching out to us.
Can you try disabling Hardware Acceleration and see if this helps resolve the issue?

Settings --> Additional Settings --> System --> Hardware Acceleration

Thanks for the response! I disabled hardware acceleration in settings a re-launched the browser. These first couple of times I’ve tried to open a tab there isn’t really a difference – the lag might be a little shorter, but it’s still a distinct 10-ish second pause.
