Description of the issue: I am getting constant notifications of a Cloaked product for the Brave Browser despite turning off notifications (they get turned back on somehow). I am not interested, I am not going to buy it, but I’ll get four or five notifications a day for it.
**Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary): 1. 2. 3.**All I have to do is look at the notification.
**Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!):**I get a full page ad
Expected result: I expect the notifications to stay off and not having to constantly get the notification, turn them off, rinse, repeat
Reproduces how often: 4-5 times a day
Operating System and Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu): Android 14, Brave 1.70.119, Chromium 129.0.6668.70
Additional Information: I realize this isn’t a bug, but it started with the latest update. There is no way to unsubscribe or tell it to go away. I’d appreciate it if someone could tell me how to turn this off.
@Reinbeau It sounds like there might be some confusion between different types of ads. Could you clarify exactly what you’re seeing? In one part of your post, you mention notifications, but in another, you describe it as a full-page ad.
If it’s the full-page one on the New Tab Page, those are called NTP ads or Sponsored Images. These aren’t notifications, so turning off notifications won’t disable them. Instead, you can go to your New Tab Page settings → Background Images → and disable Sponsored Images (it’s at the bottom of the list).
And if it is NTP ad, then I’m assuming you’re speaking of something like below (though image is from desktop version compared to mobile):
I get a notification (in the notification bar at the top of my Samsung Android phone). I look at it, click on it, it’s a Cloaked full page new tab ad. This is on Android. It isn’t an ad that happens when I’m browsing, it’s an Android notification that leads to a new tab full blown advertisement for Cloaked. Today I haven’t received one, but I once again went into the Android settings and turned off notifications for Brave. It isn’t a background image, it’s a NTP, and it most definitely comes from me checking the notification (in the Android notification bar at the top of my screen) and clicking on it. Thank you for your thoughts though.
@Reinbeau so the notification you’re describing would be a notification ad from Brave. You only can see those if you have opted into Brave Rewards, which means you enabled it at some point. If you don’t want to see them, then you would need to go into Brave’s settings → Rewards and turn off notification ads. You can also get to it by typing in brave://rewards to go there directly.
