Annoying Brave Browser notifications

@Mattches

Hi there,

So I know there was an update recently & ever since, I’m getting these annoying brave browser notifications. I never agreed to them unless they are part of the points program or something.

You know the ones that slide down on the bottom right of your screen?

I’m getting 3 each time (must be b/c of my multiple profiles) & I close them & then a minute or two later more come & they are always the same. A VPN & I can’t remember the other 2.

How do I get them to stop?

I think we looked in the settings & couldn’t find anything.

Thanks

@OurFreeSociety,
What you’re seeing are Brave’s privacy preserving ads. You get paid (in BAT) for allowing the browser to serve them to you. However, if you want to stop receiving Brave Ads:

  1. Go to Menu --> Settings --> Brave Rewards
  2. Switch the toggle In the Ads section to “off”
  3. No longer receive ads!

So I just have to let them load & I get paid?

And then they disappear after a few secs?

This is new though, right?

Thanks

@OurFreeSociety,
It’s new-ish – the feature was officially implemented last year :slight_smile:
Yes, you have to let them appear. You can also close them as soon as they appear if you’d like. Taken from the FAQ linked above:

In the initial Brave Ads release, users receive BAT for viewing the ad notifications. In future releases, users will be able to earn additional rewards for engagement events within the ad tabs. Brave does not reward users for clicking on the notifications. Brave’s position is that users should only click on ads that they have a genuine interest in engaging with.

@Mattches - ok, b/c I only started seeing them recently so I have no idea why they were never showing up before LOL

I’ll leave that one to you.

You do know they are the same 3 ads all the time, right?

Thanks

@OurFreeSociety,
The Ads served to you are targeted by a privacy preserving algorithm that will find ads that it believes are the best matches for you. You can read more about how the algorithm matches users with ads while maintaining user privacy/anonymity here:
