Hi everyone. I have noticed this issue among other users. I followed all recommended solutions from other posts and none of worked. I removed all history, cache, used private mode, turned off all extensions and of course made sure I am up to date, still no luck.
Description of the issue: “backward button” doen not work on Youtube as expected.
Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary): 1. 2. 3.
Click any youtube video (go with short ones for a start)
Wait few seconds after it started playing
Now press the back button located top left of brave (or back button on mouse)
It is supposed to go back Youtube.com home but instead the link will sort of refresh and video will just start playing again
Press back button again you will end up in brave home
Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!):
back button goes back on same link (acts like refresh) pressing back button again goes brave home instead of previous youtube page Expected result:
Back button should go to previous youtube page Reproduces how often:
happens approx 8/10 Operating System and Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu):
Win11, v1.52.126 Additional Information:
I had this problem for a long time, I assumed it was a bug which would be repaired soon but it has been over 4 months (most likely much more) and still its here. It is a small bug but it is extremely annoying. I usually end up in brave home as mentioned above and press the forward button again to go to the desired page.
Umm incognito is in the same profile kinda. Can make a new profile by clicking on the Hamburger Menu / three horizontal lines near the right top corner → Create new profile
@Maxpayne incognito/private window just opens the same profile and keeps all settings. The only difference is that it usually runs without extensions by default and any of your cookies and browsing history from that session will be deleted upon exit.
A new browser profile will open with no extensions installed, no cookies from your other profile, and most of the settings to default. So usually private/incognito window is used to test extensions. New profile still can hint to extension issue, but it also is there to rule out whether it’s a setting you’ve changed or something wrong in your cookies.
In regards to YouTube, I actually experienced the issue you did on a video. I went to test a few things out, including wondering if it had something to do with blocking their ad videos. In one of the tests, I turned off Shields and it no longer stopped me from going back to the main YouTube page. I toggled Shields back on and went to repeat, but I no longer had the issue.
So I’m not sure if it’s intermittent, if there’s a cookie or something that I ended up allowing when I removed Shields that prevents it, or what? It’s something I’ll be keeping an eye on and testing later, but for now it’s not replicating for me anymore.
