Brave won't start at all on Mac Ventura after update

As the title states. I updated my Mac this morning and Brave stopped working as soon as I clicked on ‘Create a new profile’, since I need to create one for work.

I’m stumped. Clicking on the desktop icon doesn’t do anything, neither does clicking from the Applications folder. I tried safe mode and it doesn’t make a difference.

I was about to try a fresh install but then I saw this thread where someone is having the same issue and have received no help, then lost everything when they did a fresh install:

Any help is appreciated.

I have tried to install a new version of Brave, but the problem persists. I don’t want to delete the settings folders since I don’t want to lose all my browser data.

i have this issue too. wont open from dock or finder. really would love to not have to do a clean install if possible.

this is after updating to macOS Ventura 13.4.1 (22F82), immediately after.

please help! even if its to guide me where i might even find error logs and hopefully figure it out from there myself (though i know so little lol) anyway thanks!

immediate update: just decided screw it and went for the full reinstall. still not working. bounces in the dock when clicked, then just closes automatically. it has to be the new OS

Sorry for the late response here. I will ask our macOS team about this — that said, I am typing this response right now from a macOS machine using Ventura 13.4.1.

@cezsays can you check and see if you download and run the Beta build if you get the same results as @yousurname?

i keep downloading brave and trying again in hopes it was a fluke, but as expected, it just shuts down automatically. bounces in dock for 2 seconds and disappears. interestingly the notification comes up to allow notifications but after that its completely disappeared. no sign of it anywhere in activity monitor.

again, thanks so much! one day ill know enough to pop in and fix random strangers problems. appreciate y’all.

So far Beta is working ok, but I have no idea how to recover my settings from the regular Brave…

Can you please try re-downloading the installer and running it to fetch the latest version, then tell me if it makes any difference. I am still unclear as to the issue here, especially given that the Beta launches without issue.

Reached out to our macOS folks to see what they think — still unclear on why this is happening. Have you been using Beta this past week or so without issues still?

some luck:

i tried

open -a "Brave Browser.app" -n --args --profile-directory="testprofile"

as per instructions i found on another thread, but when switching to vertical tabs the same issue occurs again, the entire window disappears. vertical tab third party extension works, but brave is deeply malfunctioning on its own. i cant see a bunch in dark mode either. so many issues that really only popped up since the latest macOS ventura update.
