I just switched to Dashboard, I saw that I do not have Brave News showing. It crashed again until I can switch back to Blank Page.
What does the "today" setting contain in %localappdata%/BraveSoftware/Brave-Browser/User Data/Default/Preferences ?

This is why your browser keeps reaching out to the Brave News endpoint (and executes code on the path that crashes it). Please follow the steps here to remove the "today" section from Preferences: Brave does not launches, even after deleting User Data - #88 by szilardszaloki. Then you’ll be able to set the new tab page to dashboard again.
Ok, I removed that whole path (from "today all the way to }},
and switched to Dashboard and it crashed immediately.
DO I need to completely close Brave and reopen for it to work?
Closing and reopening didn’t work either. Dashboard still crashing.
Brave needs to be closed while editing the Preferences file. Mind checking if you still have the today section?
yeah, it’s there again, ha. Ok, will close Brave and then remove “today” etc
ok, did what you said. It automatically changed to Dashboard and has not crashed so far. It did say “your preferences file is corrupt and your settings have been lost”. whatever that means.
I checked my settings, nothing looks changed or missing.

The error message means that you ended up with a malformed Preferences file after the edit. You should have a backup Preferences file from step 5., so you can try again — or I can help you remove the right portion in DM.
its working fine so far
I only recently started having this issue with brave to only realize that it was due to the change in support for windows. Thank you very much this seemed to work perfectly. Also disabled the news just in case.
