the only time my internet connection drops is when I am using an Non-Private search window. happens as often as every 3-4 minutes and is much worse when using Youtube for some reason.
What happens? all the sudden Videos freeze and try to load, messages won’t send etc. shutting off WiFi and waiting 10 seconds fixes it until the next time, of course.
I’ve been searching through the forums here and have learned of other people experiencing similar issues. I couldn’t find any active posts or posts since 2022 so I guess i’ll start this again.
one thing i did learn from past posts is that using a “private” window in Brave works and won’t drop the connection. also i can use Firefox and there’s no connectivity issues. and no issues with this with iPhone, iPad or my 2012 MPB running Catalina.
Read that disabling IPFS in the settings can help but I can’t find it…
This issue has only been going on since I moved into a new house about a month ago. Maybe there’s something about the router that’s messing with this particular Brave build. I don’t know but jacking with the router isn’t really an option as it’s located on my landlords side. and since the non-private windows, on this mac, are the only thing causing the disconnection I don’t see much point digging elsewhere.
any help or a straight up ‘solve’ in the next update would be splendid.
Using Brave Version 1.73.97 Chromium: 131.0.6778.108
2017 Macbook Pro / Ventura 13.7.1 (22H221)
it’s really only on one mac as i said above. the other i use mostly for mobil music production and would prefer not to mess around on terminal with it since it’s not affected.
I’ll try whatever to fix this on the 2017 but could you please give me some indication of the purpose and what I should be looking for? thanks
First line of your description in your Original Post (“OP”) above:
“the only time my internet connection drops is when I am using an Non-Private search window”
That means, the probability is high, that your Internet connection is OK and not “dropped.”
In order to verify that your Internet connection is probably OK, you can test it, by following the suggestion:
You would learn something, a network test method, that will be useful in the future. And for the moment - your issue at present - you can compare the quality of the Internet connection, per Mac.
Running the commands, is not going to upset either Mac.
Update: I never had the chance to try the fix mentioned above but for the sake of future folks trying to solve an issue I’ll close the loop on the post.
Firstly everything was solved by the latest Ventura (13.7.2) update from Apple / I went to the apple forums and found people with the same mac and same issue and just feel lucky that my issue started at the tail end of a problem that was dogging other people for a couple of years.
So I was wrong in thinking it was because of Brave. For some reason the browser, and Youtube especially, did trigger the disconnection faster. The private Window did help but i jumped the gun on posting that it was a perfect fix. it would eventually drop the Wifi signal too i found.
The weird thing about all of this is that it only happened on one router and only on one device. I just moved into a new house and it’s on the landlords side of a duplex so I never actually put my hands on it. Either way it was located still extremely close to my room. This problematic MBP never dropped signal in my studio and shop either, which are both at totally different addresses, or any of the places i link to on various work sites. honestly I’m surprised this was ever resolved at all considering how slim the margins are on actually having some odd combo of devices and networks to cause this issue.
