Brave completely unusable as of today

Description of the issue:
on 11/29/23 I noticed that Brave started becoming slow to respond or totally unresponsive for any url entered, including History. Task manager indicated that multiple Brave subprocesses were in Eco mode. Did research, found solution to Eco mode issue (adding option to properties of Brave Shortcut). Eco mode no longer attached to sub processes, but lack of response continued. Shutdown, restarted. Removed Brave, reinstalled. No change in responsiveness. Turned of Eco mode in Chrome (followed instructions found online to change Chrome configuration), Chrome works as expected. Firefox works as expected.

Exact URL of the website in question:
All and any. for example, Brave.com
**Did the issue present with default Shields settings? (yes/no)**yes. I made no change to the Shields settings

**Does the site function as expected when Shields are turned off?**settings would not load

**Is there a specific Shields configuration that causes the site to break? If so, tell us that configuration. (yes/no):**settings would not load

**Does the site work as expected when using Chrome?**yes

**Brave version (check About Brave):**does not load. reinstalled moments before this was posted from brave.com using Chrome

additional items

  1. mobile Brave on Android works as expected in the same network.
  2. settings did eventually load. Trackers and ad blocking were OFF, other setting standard. Performance returned to nominal when trackers and ad blocking were set to standard.
  3. Version is V.160.125 (Nov 29 2023)
  4. Efficiency mode (erroneously labeled Eco mode in original post) continues but does not seem to significantly affect performance.

last (hopefully) add. Performance improvements are intermittent. Responsiveness (e.g., page loading)drops significantly temporarily, then resumes as normal. Drops on the order of 10 - 20 seconds. Period between not identified.

BUMP.

Same here. Some months ago using Windows 10, Brave began loading some sites very slowly, 5-25 seconds. I noticed most at first were news sites, but now it’s spread and I’m getting long delays most of the time.

I’ve turned all extensions off and the problem remains. Quickly checking with Microsoft Edge shows the sites load immediately. I’m on some super 1gb cable internet, so loading shouldn’t be a problem.

I’ve been thinking it was my VPN or the internet provider, but no. It’s Brave.

Worked great for years, now it’s continuous and at times very lengthy - up to 30 seconds - load times of many sites.

And for me performance has returned to nominal. Crazy. Haven’t had an issue since the day I first posted

It could have been my computer. I think it was. But odd it only impacted the Brave browser and not Firefox (which I downloaded because of Brave’s extreme slow load times) or the Microsoft one, I forget what it’s called.

Still, I powered up an older computer, plugged it in, and I have very minimal lag/delay using Brave on it.

I’ll have to search more. Maybe reset the old one.

There are a lot of little things that can cause issues. Graphics settings, extensions, cookies, antivirus, firewall, device drivers, and quite a bit more. It makes troubleshooting a pain. But generally can tell if it’s an issue with Brave based on the number of people reporting issues. Things like this doesn’t have many people reporting, so tends to be an outside interference. Hopefully you can figure it out on your computer.

A post was split to a new topic: Performance issues on Windows 11

@waynehelander Just want to verify, you’re still having no issues?

On my end, the problem was on Windows 10 (ineligible for free upgrade to 11). On the older computer, it had an update awhile ago to Windows 11, and no issues on this one.

yeah, I’m a little mystified. As I think I mentioned in my original post (or one of the two addendums) the issue was in Brave and in Chrome originally, but not in FireFox (which I had to download to try), and persisted across a power cycle. Then gone a little later in the day.
