Brave browser sync not working on a fresh Ubuntu 24.04.1 install

I did a fresh Ubuntu install, and installed Brave using the terminal command on the Brave website.

I then tried to set up sync and although I didn’t get any errors, it isn’t syncing everything. I enabled the option to sync everything in the settings.

There are less than 10 devices in my chain. This is working on other devices I have.

Brave Version: Version 1.74.51 Chromium: 132.0.6834.160 (Official Build) (64-bit)

According to this site: brave://sync-internals/
…my system keeps repeating these steps:

2/5/2025, 11:06:31 PM Initial GetUpdates
Reason: NEWLY_SUPPORTED_DATATYPE
2/5/2025, 11:06:32 PM GetUpdates Response
Received 0 update(s). Some updates remain.

Please let me know what other information you need.

Grateful for any assistance! Thanks,

Steve.

@steve333 to clarify, in which direction is the data not being Synced? That is, is the Ubuntu machine not receiving data from other devices on the Sync chain? Or is it not syncing it’s data to other devices on the chain?

Additionally, can you share a screenshot of your brave://sync-internals/ page with me here?

Hi @Mattches - thanks for your reply.

The new Brave instance in Ubuntu isn’t sending or receiving anything from any of the other nodes, although weirdly it did manage to get the bookmarks for the bookmarks bar, but nothing else.

Happy to share a screenshot, but is there anything you would advise I obscure before sharing? Is there any data in there that could be used to hack my system?

@steve333 there shouldn’t be but to be safe you can share it in the DM I just sent you.

Thank - I sent you the screenshot.

Weirdly though, when I started up my machine this morning everything was fine! History across all devices and my favourites were all there. Not sure what the issue was - clearly I had a good internet connection at the time otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to post in the forum.

Strange!
