Amazon Prime Video didn't work

Hello everyone,

Amazon Prime Video has not been working for a while now.

Only error message:
Video error

A problem has occurred while playing this video. Please try again. For further assistance, please contact Amazon customer service.

What have I tried so far?
Edge: everything works fine
Brave own adblocker deactivated, U-Block Origin deactivated, PiHole temporarily deactivated, all without success.
Widevine is active, has been deactivated with the familiar DRM error message. After reactivation error again see screenshot.
Widevine is up to date (version: 4.10.2710.0)

What can I do now?

@Kyffer It’s generally helpful to share what OS and specific version of Brave you’re using. That aside, steps I didn’t see you mention and would suggest trying:

  • Open in private/incognito

  • Create a new browser profile (don’t add extensions or change settings to this new secondary profile)

  • Are you using a VPN or proxy? If so, can try to disable those.

  • Change DNS settings

  • Test on a different version of Brave. Such as if you’re using normal Brave (Release), then try on Beta or Nightly.

Ohhh sorry, my fault. Windows 10 22H2 (19045.4170)

Normal browsing, no incognito

I did it and it works! How can I find out, what is wrong with my original profile?

No VPN

With new profile it works

With new profile it works.

@Kyffer I want to make sure I’m understanding here. Are you saying it happens as well in private/incognito windows as well? Or that the issue goes away?

Well, depends on clarification on what happened in private window. I guess let me break it down here.

Private

  • Extensions disabled by default (still installed to the profile, but turned off basically)
  • Session opens with no cookies
  • History and cookies from the session get erased when you exit.

So generally if an issue goes away in Private window (also referred to as incognito), then it tells us that it’s an issue with extensions or cookies. It’s 99.9% one of the two and it’s just having to figure out which. I’d say at least 75% of the time, it’s extensions.

New Profile

  • Has no extensions installed at all.
  • Majority of settings are default (custom filters in Shields and anything changed at brave://flags persist across profiles)
  • Obviously new profile would have no cookies or anything as starting fresh.

If issue didn’t resolve in Private but resolves in new profile, there’s a 50% chance it’s still extensions causing the issue. It’s generally a good place to start checking. You can either add the extensions to new profile and see if it breaks there or would be able to remove extensions from original profile to see if things resolve.

Second thing is the more annoying, which is then trying to see what settings are different. Things like basic Shields settings, Widevine, graphics acceleration, is have Secure DNS enabled in brave://settings/security, if Site Settings are different (especially for the site in question), etc.

Third is similar to private, which is cookies and all.

New day, new attempt

Sry, I misunderstood you. In incognito windows it works too.

Cookies was a good cue! I could have thought of it myself…

After I deleted all cookies and restarted Brave, it still didn’t work. I then deleted everything including my browser history (I had previously removed the hook) and now it works.

The fact that a cookie is messing up, ok. But what else has the browser history saved that it doesn’t work? Doesn’t it just contain all the websites and when I visited them? I am confused.

It continues to work even after several browser restarts. Many thanks for your help. Next time I will first delete all browser data completely before starting a new topic.

Regards

@Kyffer browser history should have no impact. I just wonder if you did something slightly different. For example, often the default for clearing cookies is just for the last hour, as you can see in screenshot below of the setting in a new profile.

I’m not sure if it’s possible that you changed the Time Range or something? Or if you went to Advanced Tab, there’s Site and Shields Settings vs Cookies and other site data. If first time was cookies only and second time also did site and shields, that might have been difference.

Anyway, glad to hear that’s all you needed. Hopefully no further issues. And yes, if you can remember the testing between private window and new profile, it can help you on figuring out many of your issues. Or at least it helps know what the issue isn’t. Always a good place to start.

I have chosen the entire period. Even before, when I only deleted the cookies.

There are eight options under advanced, of which 1-4 and the last one are already ticked. It is possible that I had also ticked the penultimate (site and shields) option. But there is only one website in it.

I will definitely keep that in mind
