Align theme settings with Night Mode

First of all, a SNAFU: I was actually thinking for days on how to turn on that perfect dark mode like web browser which turns on and off automatically according to device settings but turns out, I was confusing “Night Mode” with dark mode.
A quick research reminded me of that, and that I once knew the difference per my post here.

But alas…

The pre-existing arrangement, as masterfully covered is already great: “Dark mode theme with dark web content”.
The temporary solution offered by with dismay over lack of response by Mr “@MichaelFCorker” is predictably and deplorably, removed by now.
This is a quite dangerous vestige not just for accessibility, but personal health — that the graphics team is unwilling to resolve for years. We don’t know why, exactly? If they personally like it, no judgment. But why not give the choice?

P.S. Additional good topics for why this is urgently needful are here and here. Need even more, still now somehow yet?

Edit Note: Added additional references and fixed some within 2 revisions, to answer ‘why’ of the question [asked].

If Android’s works the same way as iOS, AT THIS TIME, I would have to disagree, I’m not sure how Android’s Night Mode works but on iOS, Night Mode doesn’t work perfectly, all it does is make a negative of whatever the current website looks like, as in, if it is a White background website, it turns things black, which is ideal and works well… BUT, not every website has a white background, so when you are using Night Mode and go to a Black or Dark Background website, it unfortunately turns it White and obviously does the opposite effect…

if THAT can be fixed that would be preferred, having Night Mode work smarter would be better…

I prefer my screens as dark as possible all the time, and I always have the Dark Appearance on, so if the two options were exclusively linked that would be a problem (on those naturally dark websites)…

BUT… if they can do these things, I’m sure they can have a switch button under Appearance saying “Sync Dark Mode with Night Mode” and that would make everyone happy

(Missed posting as a reply. Urge mods to scrub it.)

First of all, Thank You So Much for being the first-ever to engage nowadays on this virtually-extinct forum across any of my topics.

Welcome!

Yep, truth be told: That’s exactly how it works as the Brave devs have engineered it. But that’s one of the oddities, isn’t it? With so much customisation offered by Android, other Chromium-based browsers such as the one I loved using, Opera, do get the dark mode right. So what’s with Brave that they can’t get either ad blocking or even night mode right? It’s not like Kunlun’s Opera are applying some patented code which nobody else, not even Google, has.
And therefore, only-&-only as a temporary reprieve: I second your recommended patch as a temporary solution. :+1:t5::+1:t5::+1:t5:

Edit Note: Fixed the typo and edited for clarity.

If this masterpiece (Dark Reader, which I of course use on Desktop) could be used on Mobile that would be amazing!

(it’s available for Safari and again not using Android so I’m not sure but looks like it’s available for Microsoft Edge… but clearly that’s not what we’re talking about right now here haha)

Errmmm… Mostly, yeah. Frankly, I would appreciate every single night mode solution which discriminates with image files amongst the graphics — even vector files like that global Wikipedia logo, yeah, by leaving them untouched, actually. The attempt to extend the treatment to pictorial stuff is where it gets it wrong. For instance, with emojis.

P.S. Arrgghh! I dunno what’s wrong with this website that replies don’t get posted as replies the first time.

I see you, don’t worry about it, worst comes to worst just tag/mention someone by typing @ and their name, e.g. @maazkalim

Though I don’t have too much more to say about this subject at this point beyond, I too, hope that Night Mode improves

No worries. Yep. Bye…! :crossed_fingers:t5::crossed_fingers:t5::crossed_fingers:t5:

P.S. Is that the reason why you didn’t upvote?

The reason I didn’t upvote I explain in my first original reply to you, things need to be fixed before I can agree with your original proposal, anyway good chatting with you :v:

Yep, that’s what I thought. :+1:t5::+1:t5::+1:t5:

Hey @maazkalim check this out, just noticed this (see post link below)

@Mattches might you add this for Android as well? (I would assume if you have it for iOS you’d do it for Android but just to be safe since you did add iOS in that github post)

ALSO to BOTH of you, with recent update to Brave on iOS (1.70.1), it’s using the less NEGATIVE type functionality as I mentioned in my first post above and is just making white black and keeping black still black!

Ahh… I see.

Kudos!

However, since you mean ‘colour-inversion’ by “negative” — yes, it’s still the same on Android. As in, total color-invert.
In fact… I’d wager it would even be illegal to do so since it’s so indiscriminate, that it even inverts the colours of national flags and other symbols which is very illegal in many jurisdictions across the Human Civilisation. So they must hurry to fix this!
And congrats for that getting fixed at snail’s pace for iOS, so that means that it has stopped inverting in a black-&-white way, but other colours continue to be inverted — correct?

On iOS the colour-inversion (and that is what I meant when I was saying “negative” so  :+1:) but admittedly I have NOT spent as much time on my phone recently since the update but the few times I have looked around from going to websites that were dark, they’re no longer turning bright with night mode on, so Thanks :+1: and hope it comes to Android for you soon too  sorry it hasn’t yet :man_shrugging: :-1:

Also I see you spotted my post about Dark Mode for Desktop here (see below) be sure to vote for it! and, I recently made another request (vote for it too, if you’d like, though it’s unrelated) which made me realize, you didn’t click the vote button yourself above (I have now  ) AND it doesn’t do it automatically (which is strange) when the original poster creates the suggestion, so go vote for it yourself! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

(oh, I guess it was because I tagged this thread there haha :man_facepalming: :man_shrugging:)

Yep. No worries. My pleasure! And yes… :crossed_fingers:t5::crossed_fingers:t5::crossed_fingers:t5:
There’s no beta programs, otherwise I would even consider partaking in that.

Wait! I did “” your post, so what else to do in a loosely-related topic since it’s not created by you but evidently, yet-another forumite who has left the community since long enough?

As for the off-topic fresh request created by you, I am gonna reply to you over there.

P.S. Ha! Good catch about not upvoting. While I dunno if there’s some anywhere which I’m not aware of but you have read, but I thought it would be against the ethics or at least propriety if one votes on their own topic before somebody else has since the original-post of a topic is already meant to convey what the OP (Original Poster) actually wants, you know? Unlike the Wikipedia RfCs, but it appears your impression is that they are in fact like the latter, except that the mandate to clarify your vote is there because at least on English-language Wiki, you’ve to create the RfC as dispassionately as possible — something which is clearly not a rule here, as is the case for WWW forums in general.

Speaking of… About the colour-inversion thing…

…Having slept on it, that is quite a problem to UX during Night Mode and I understand it has naturally been for you, as well till it has gotten seemingly fixed for your platform, Apple’s iOS. No?
So… Should I create a distinct topic for that, as a bug-report because as you can see: I clearly didn’t factor that in when creating this topic and only paid attention once you drew me to it.
Why am I trying to pick your brain over this is also because I don’t know if it would yield any result beyond giving me an achievement of clerical etiquette.
To wit, I have already submitted a bug report at least once over unrelated subject of Brave Shields, but nobody else has responded to me over it [as of now]. I was in fact befooled that devs really attend/pay-attention-on it but not to engage with OPs.

P.P.S. And yes… Look what I found! Here’s the urgency-only list which would come in for you to draw the attention of right people.

Edit Note: Redacted the factually-incorrect quip about beta.
Edit Note #2: Minor fix of arranging addenda correctly.
Edit Note #3: Fixed line-breaking.

Obviously you meant here (here: Make Backing Up Back Up & Restore Brave Settings Easier & More Thorough with IMPORT/EXPORT Feature - #10 by maazkalim) so… I’m again not entirely sure what to say, when I said Dark Mode looks fixed on iOS a bit ago it was from looking at just a few pages it seemed better, one website I use regularly, when I had Dark Mode on that IS already dark wasn’t inverted but remained Dark as I wanted but as I’ve looked around at other websites and have heard from some other random places on this forum just stumbling around looking at what’s coming in occasionally, there are still some issues with it… I don’t use my phone too much when I’m out and most of the time when I’m home I’m on my laptop so it’s hard to say from my own personal use how things are going on iOS Brave overall. So if you’re thinking you’re missing out on better Dark Mode with iOS, it is still a work in progress over here as well.

I see. Thanks for clarifying. So… About the bug-report? What say? Should I create another topic for that bit about the Night Mode?

I wouldn’t, I’m pretty sure there is already one if you wanted to search the community for it / otherwise trust that Brave devs know and are working on it anyway, but up to you

Ahh… Thanks for your two cents from the bottom of your heart. One less chore, then. 🫶🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾
