Make Backing Up Back Up & Restore Brave Settings Easier & More Thorough with IMPORT/EXPORT Feature

Hello Brave Community & Devs, I have a suggestion that I feel like has probably been suggested before but I did do a search on here and did not find it (so sorry if I missed it :man_shrugging: ).

My suggestion is to make backing up our Brave profile and/or settings, with or without extensions information included, EASIER, such as going to brave://settings/ and finding an option to IMPORT or EXPORT those Brave Settings.

Many people are under the assumption that using Sync ( brave://settings/braveSync ) is that option, but this is not the case (or at least best case scenario).

There are other work arounds as well as pointed out in the always helpful @Saoiray thread/post found here (see below link).

But that/those methods, no offence, are a little clunky and/or doesnā€™t carry over ALL settings (again with or without extensions), AND it only covers a few pieces of information, being Passwords, Bookmarks & Wallet info OR is a bit of process and as is pointed out in the description, could cause issues. e.g. Having Shield settings, Tabs/Current Session, Apps, History, etc. etc. would be helpful

Also to go with that, it would be helpful if it could be automated on a schedule, letting the user choose how often it is updated. If not, at least letting us do it manually would be helpful.

AND since Sync ISNā€™T meant as a backupā€¦ I donā€™t know if I just missed it while setting it up awhile agoā€¦ giving a big clear WARNING that Sync is not meant for Backups (again sorry if I missed it at the time :man_shrugging: ).

If anything I hope people see this and consider making a back up of what they can and/or use the below article if people go looking for a how toā€¦

Thanks again @Saoiray FOR that articleā€¦ though if I might suggest you add how to find the direct path on macOS as well (only the C:// for Windows path is showing there currently).

Also I suggested this for Desktop only, but if it could be done for Mobile as well thatā€™d be great, but for me, less of a priority as I mostly use my laptop (and then haha Sync) :v:  Thanks for your consideration!

Just to get your attention as well @Mattches please see feature request above   (not sure if you are the one to tag/mention and to bring this to but I believe we have both seen each other enough around here )

Also not sure how I marked it as ā€œsolvedā€ or how to do that still when Iā€™d like to do it on purpose :man_facepalming: :man_shrugging:

Pursuant to your reply here:
Obviously this one is off-subject to the discussion weā€™ve gotten introduced over with each other, but as it turns outā€¦

Itā€™s not that unfamiliar terrain for me, after all: When will the press-darling BraveĀ® browser ever start supporting any form of full-fledged data migration?.
That was my first-ever contribution to the community very soon after I firstly tried Brave quarter-past-5 years ago (TMI strategically from my ā€˜very special day [in a year]ā€™), and thatā€™s where ā€œ@mattchesā€ initiatives himself to me.

Soā€¦ For your topic here: I dig it, actually! Especially since as if you would dig deep into my activity here, youā€™d come to learn thatā€™s why I left for so long.
Howeverā€¦ I see that your topic has multiple OS tagged so itā€™s supposedly platform-agnostic feedback but youā€™ve still submitted it under ā€œDesktop requestsā€, so before I decide whether Iā€™m gonna vote in favour or notā€¦
Could you please clarify why that is?
Is it because you didnā€™t knew that you can file a broad, platform-agnostic thread (and itā€™s still not too late for you to edit, if thatā€™s really the case) or is it 'cus while youā€™d appreciate this getting implemented for all platforms, you primarily use Brave on PC (dunno if itā€™s Windows, Linux or naturally, macOS) so obviously you care about the priority being on that one instead? Or is it something else?

Iā€™ll just say that Iā€™m using Mac OS and thatā€™s the platform Iā€™d like to see this implemented on. Especially the automatic backups, donā€™t like having to save my bookmarks every week out of paranoia.

Wait!

Are you the same person as ā€œ@User.1.000.000.000ā€ and have created another account to reply to me, for some reason?

Or you a legit newbie who has nothing to do with my own post here?

Hey @maazkalim, thatā€™s not me, Iā€™ve messaged a few people around about checking out this topic and they were applicable to wanting this as well (as per his comment) and as seen here: Location of Bookmark Backups

Sorry I havenā€™t gotten back to you sooner, Iā€™ve had the notification email marked as unread to get back to you, there was just a lot to reply to and I didnā€™t feel like sitting down and going through it when I received it.

ā€¦and then Iā€™ve felt like taking a break from the community as Iā€™ve spent A LOT of time on it recently in the past 2 weeks or so.

I just re-read your comment, not as much to it as I thought I was going to need to get intoā€¦
when you messaged it was JUST before I was going to bed as well (I THINK we live on opposites side of the world :man_shrugging:)ā€¦

Anyway, in case you didnā€™t notice, I did update the Desktop Requests to JUST Brave Feature Requests after my initial reading of your comment :+1: this can certainly be applied across the board  :+1:

{1-for-2 reply:} I see.

No worries, now that youā€™ve explained it all.

As I indicated, Iā€™ve now added my vote to the proposal ā€” too. :+1:t5::+1:t5::+1:t5::+1:t5::+1:t5::+1:t5::+1:t5:
Hereā€™s hoping you would make time to at least also answer my own dilemma in my topic over there, if not read the one relevant to this one by you here which I started over 5+ years ago and has been locked since past several months. :crossed_fingers:t5::crossed_fingers:t5::crossed_fingers:t5:

Iā€™m not sure what to say when it comes to your old post here: When will the press-darling BraveĀ® browser ever start supporting any form of full-fledged data migration? as it is a few years old and I donā€™t use Android myself and not sure what Brave Sync was like back then eitherā€¦ but Iā€™m glad weā€™re in agreement about wanting/needing Brave Sync and/or settings to be a little more enhanced for moving between devices and/or restoring/backing up etc as needed/wanted.

Sorry, Iā€™m a bit tired right now and not sure what else there is to sayā€¦ if you would like me to address anything further, please help me to do so - if you have any questions youā€™d like me to specifically answer or anything, I donā€™t mean any disrespect, sorry again for the late reply, itā€™s been good chatting with you, anyway ttyl :slightly_smiling_face:

Nope, this wasnā€™t a late reply.

So no need to apologise ā€œagainā€.

Okayā€¦ So you clearly focused on the second i.e. my closed-topic which is relevant to your own here, but what I about the first one which I wanna know about, you know, the latest reply I made over there?
