2 Brave windows opened on 2 screens, closing last tab of one kill the process Brave

Hi,
I use Brave on multiple windows (3 windows on 3 screens most of the time).
I sometimes need to close the last tab of one of them. And, when i do it, the Brave Process is killed (all windows are closed).
When i restart Brave, there is a restore message.
I’ve turned off the close Brave button on last tab close.

I think this is not intended and need to be fixed.

Windows 10 Pro up to date
Version 1.68.128 Chromium: 127.0.6533.73 (Build officiel) (64 bits)

Best Regards

I can confirm this behaviour, somewhat.

  • It doesn’t have to be across multiple screens, but two separate windows are necessary
  • I actually think the issue only happens when you close the tab via the close button (x) on the tab itself.

When closing it via keyboard shortcuts, brave does not force close / crash or whatever is happening there.

I’m on Win 11, using Version 1.68.128 Chromium: 127.0.6533.73 (Official Build) (64-bit).

EDIT:

I’ve narrowed the problem down to the Updated horizontal tabs design flag (brave://flags/#brave-horizontal-tabs-update) when it is set to disabled.

If you enable the new (and ugly) bubble design the issue is not present.

I’ve just made a proposal for the new tab design, that i feel must of us who don’t like the current direction could live with.

I’m having this same issue. If I have a second window with a single tab, and middle-click to close that one tab (and the window itself since thats the only tab), my primary window with all of my open pages crashes and a restore message shows next open.

This even happens when the windows are from different profiles. E.g. I close the last tab in my “School” browser profile, and it destroys all instances of my “Work” and “Personal” profiles also!

I have brave://flags/#brave-horizontal-tabs-update set to disabled.

As stated here, we are working on patching the new tab design up and I’ll make sure that the team knows about this particular issue as well.

For now, if you want a usable browser, simply enable the flag until we can take a look at this.
